i had an interesting conversation w/ my friend the other night. i mentioned that some people were calling eric rudolph a christian terrorist and that some christians were getting upset at this moniker. the christians were saying that his beliefs weren't christian, but of course, thats what most muslims say about "islamic terrorists." christians were basically getting a taste of their own medicine and they didn't like it much.
i also mentioned it wasn't necessarily twisted religion that made terrorists, but that twisted people made religion a justification for terrorist acts. my friend, being buddhist, claimed that it didn't apply to buddhists. i thought about it and i couldn't remember any reference to buddhist terrorists. i thought that tibetan resistance fighters would be a candidate, but that argument was weak b/c their resistance was short and it was too intertwined w/ a recent invasion. it never amounted to much.
but how about the white lotus society that overthrew the mongol rules in china? i don't know much about them but i believe they used buddhist teaching to justify their war. am i correct?
