Whenever we say something that would be unpleasant to others' ears, we habitually say "no offense meant." Why do we say such a thing when we already know that no matter what, it's still going to offend the person? Is it just a strategy of playing safe?

It's just etiquette-bullshit.

I say it all the time :D

Some things can be taken the wrong way and you just want to make sure it won't.

Either some people will take it the wrong way or some people are just really sensitive...

you know what i find really dry? when people didn't [i:72395a6462]get[/i:72395a6462] that a remark was sarcastic, and then the person who said it has to say "i was being sarcastic".

that happens to me all the time. only i don't bother mentioning that i'm being sarcastic. i've been told it makes me look like a ditz.

sarcasm, or pointing out sarcasm makes you look like a ditz?
were you bouncing your head left and right while you said it?
