Maybe this might have been mentioned before in previous threads but I notice that also in other forums focusing on those of Caucasian and Asian background, people seem to be more Asian influenced or more in tuned with the Asian culture vs. the Caucasian.

Is it because your Caucasian side just plain ole multigenerational American? Or do some of you actually have close European ties? When I mean "close", I mean your parent is from Europe.

or maybe because mixed people who don't "emphasis" much of their asian side do not care enough to visit those forums.

the weird thing, I know some mixed kids in HK with one parent from Europe and another being local. But all of them attended international school all their lives, and as a result some of them have a poor command of both their parents' European language and of Cantonese, and effectively can only communicate in English. As a result they get really screwed in the job market since they are effectively restricted to finding an expat-type post in Hong Kong or an employer in an Anglosphere country who is willing to sponsor them; no chance they could work in the country of their passport.

being "restricted" to finding an expat-type post in HK is kind of a weird way to put it, as most locals would love to have the opportunity to get in on those kinds of jobs, but their poor command of english restricts them. multinational firms pay more and their office culture is not anal like local firms.

I think it's because we are on a message board for asians, talking mostly about the asian american political scene that most of the messages, including the ones from us mixes have lots to do with Asian stuff.

Could be, but these forums focus on mixes, not Asians. This place however would be an exception since this "hapas forum" is a part of yellowworld geared towards asians.

I tend to lean more towards my Irish side truthfully, I mean, I love to drink, smoke, sing, and write. Oh wait, Koreans like to drink and sing, so nevermind. Damn I'm so mixed up! lol.
Truthfully I don't, never did, nor feel the need to conform to any culture clique. To me it's narrow minded. Like saying 'Oh well, lemme exclude myself only to things Asian' which is rediculous. There's a much bigger world out there. So many people like living in small worlds though, it's more comfortable.

Well, I don't particularly feel very Dutch/German, nor do I speak the language (much) or have I ever been there, sooo...

So which Asian language do you speak? Or are you not also close to your Asian side?

Anyone who likes drinking and singing has to end up leaning away from the American side. Americans don't have any good drinking songs.

Relatively speaking, we're using English and mostly American-living based at the moment with quite a bit of travel to Asian countries so it makes sense that most of us are more fob wannabe than maybe other 'hapa' forums. Degrees of comparison. In a sea of non-Asians, we're Asian. If we were a group of mixed kids in international school abroad in Asia, we might concentrate on how foreign we are. A good number of the regulars here have functioned for a considerable amount of time in Asian-dominant social groups.

well, you could have spent all your life asserting how "unique" you were and claiming you refuse to assimilate to any culture like the hapas over here
