Whenever I see Sex in the City all I can think of is; Where do these chicks get the money to keep up with the latest fashion trends in hair and clothes, how do they get off from work during daytime to go shopping or just chat and hang out without getting fired, and I'm also amazed at the amount of dates they've shown in total for each of the characters in every episode

Maybe their boss is their boyfriend or husband?

Or they "work" for daddy's company.

samantha owns her own firm,
carrie is a writer, and charlotte
no longer works, miranda only
comes out for lunch.

it's not strange really, moschikat
and i used to take 2-3 hour lunches
together.

Is Notting Hill considered a chic flick?

I love the line where Julia Roberts character said to Hugh Grant character:

"I am just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love me."

I guess I am a romatic at heart

or a softie

Yikes my feminine side is overtaking my musculine side!

I loved Ever After, even if it was nothing more than a Cinderella remake.

She's All that was cool too. And the Hours, if you count that as a more "intellectual" chick flick.

im not against romance but when producers and writers make something for the sole purpose of being a shallow adam meets eve movie (see Two Weeks Notice) than chick flick becomes a term deserving scorn.

Are romantic comedies necessarily chick flicks? If so, how would Annie Hall or Shakespeare in Love fit in? How about Chungking Express? Is that a romantic comedy?

(Fun read: Writing the Romantic Comedy by Billy Mernit.)

Chungking Express sucked. imho just one of those overrated movies that got acclaim because it was 'artsy' and 'different'

Remembering lines from chic flicks can also score points with girls. For instance, I have used that line from Notting Hill to a few girls with great results.
