i know we're a public forum already...

however, if we wanted to make yellowworld public on a larger scale--like asian avenue or the former click2asia, do you think we're ready?

and if not, why not?

constructive criticism welcome.

Oooh. This I'd like to hear. I have my own ideas of course as to why.

One example:

C2A at its height: just under 100 employees;
yw: one, albeit obsessed, half-wit:P

My friend helped raise $10MM in VC for C2A in one quarter;
yw: $100:)

Of course, one reason, we all know, for C2A meteor-rise, was because of certain *intensely* popular clubs on its site (*cough*...Global Koreatown...*cough*...Zooropa Women...*cough).

I've never had grand aspirations for world domination or anything. I'm not even interested in making money off the site. It'd be great if the site could really become a place, where, quite simply, people could walk away with some value, whether it was through interacting with others or having learned something they hadn't before.

As the learning curve for learning all this new stuff decreases, you'll see an improved site. I have a whole host of tricks up my sleeve...I just need the Geek-brains to implement them :D

and you'll need a business manager, but I can't do that.

But if you need a guy who stands around real quiet and looks tough -- I can do that.

Because if this site ever gets to where I want it to be, I think we'll all be pleased with the results: good value-added site first, Bill Gates second.

well if we do that...we also have to figure out how we'll monitor who can post. we had enough problems with ipaki...becoming larger invites more people like him in. i dont mind being small...

Unfortunately, riff-raff is an inevitability. I know of a few sites that try their best at keeping them out, some other sites even try their best at keeping *anyone* out who doesn't quite resemble their clique...

As the site grows, so too will the forums. That's why having a good design, in terms of what our forums are, the topics, etc., is necessary now, so that it'll be stable in the future. Part of this ensuring that each forum maintain its own identity, because as the site grows, it will become more diverse, and having unique forums will only help that.

HA! You wish! Wellz, I wont discredit your clubs and its popularity.. but there were a whole helluva lot of clubs out there that were successful when it came to its active message boards and membership numbers. And while Click2Asia may be kinda dead now.. there is the Korean Autumn Story Drama Fan club and a Vicki Zhao Wei Fan club.. that are still very active to this day.....

And wellz, i guess what i loved about click2asia.. was its wide interest ppl had... and click2asia gave ppl an outlet for it all, when it came to creating different clubs/forums. And I liked c2a for its diversity in age range... And i guess yellowworld has a diverse age range too...

Anyways, I believe Yellow_World has the potential of gaining such popularity.. like CLick2Asia and Asian Avenue. But I feel its just different than my experience in c2a, in terms of its limitations.... Cuz i admit, i do visit different forums that suit my specific interests. Altho I guess your right when you say... as the site grows, the more diverse it will get when it comes to interest and forum topics.. But anyways, if raising awareness and education about AA issues is your primary interest.... i believe its already successful in that area.. and i'm sure any new ideas that develope, will make it all the more better...

There's no such thing as a "real" moderator, as if one gets professionally trained or certified...but you guys have definitely kept this forum real (corny but true). I was just talking to kasia tonight about stuff going on with the board, and was stunned to hear about so many things that I miss because I'm busy fondling code in the corner...but you moderators have definitely stepped up.

DON'T DO IT!

My old webforum I used to post on on a VERY regular basis (3-4 times a day for 45 minute sessions or so...) blew UP cuz it got so popular... I stopped posting. I couldn't keep track of who was who... and I didn't like most of the newbies... and.. it just starting getting too hard to read posts because they had too many replies. It was just too crowded and impersonal.

Well, to be honest, from the perspective of webmaster, having more people would seem to signify the site's doing better. How do you place a cap on membership...?

Regardless, I doubt we'll be exploding in numbers anytime soon without increased advertising. We've been growing at a steady, even pace, and it's nice...a couple of other members have expressed similar concerns, and I'm tossing around a few ideas in my head. One of them involves having a Yellowworld Survivor series...jk!

^-- Yes, it does signify a site's growth... but at the same time, I wouldn't always consider that to be a good thing. I just mean, don't explode. Higher numbers also mean more problems. Growth is good... keep it gradual, though.

Definitely. I have a hard enough time keeping up with everything and that's *with* 13 or so other moderators...!

hey. we should have a gimmick like C2A where they put two members together and made 'em go on a date. That'd be fricking cool. Just randomly pick two YW members that live in the same area (have similar interests, etc.....) and make them go out on a date and have fun. Then we could report on it and start a long dating series. we can post pictures, have polls on what the two should do... etc. It wouldn't be only one date, it'd be a series of dates. Must have two open minded, non-commital, preferably heterosexual....lab rats. It'd be like a long ass blind date online.

(okay, mebbe that sounds stupid, but at this particular moment in time, it sounds like a bad ass idea)

i think that would help in bringing back people to keep track of the two daters, have more interaction via the polling, and have them keep on coming back to see what happens, etc.

We'd have to keep them locked down somewhere, otherwise we'd have to follow them everywhere with video cameras. I like the idea of polling though...during commercial breaks people can call in their votes as to how they should talk or move or gyrate or whatever.

i nominate Sarah and Sy ie AngelNympho and Mrazntre since last nights flame war show both have sum animocity ! thus more complex! or maybe Double date w/ Johny and unknown vietnamese female YW member!

or if Misskisses and CRX boy are around them in the bay area.

as per previous threads -- i will hit a girl back.

anyhow, back on the subject.

it can be one of those types of things where the date will already be pre-planned by the YW staff. More of a "snippet date" than anything -- in order to limit camera movement. If the two choose to do something else then that's up to them.

i.e.

Date 1:
Hiking/picnic

Date 2:
Dinner and some boba

Date 3:
Hot tub

Date 4:
YW BBQ - the hot seat!

(assuming of course these people are on good terms after the first date)

Something relatively simple and inexpensive. It can be more of a write up type of photo report, one date every other weekend. I have a digicam so I can snap pics. =) So does Will <nominated!>.

Contestants of course should be of legal drinking age. Just in case they end up at Palms or something and people with YW stickers on their foreheads start chanting "chug chug chug" while shoving a bottle of soju in their face. *barf*

And since most of the YW people are in LA, I think it would be most logical to start off in LA, unless of course you have a mongo budget that we don't know about AB. In which case you can fly over to NY and do stuff over there.
