I'm a frequent visitor to a music forum and there have been a few comments made about Koreans doing nails. I'm originally from the west coast and I've never met any Koreans who do nails. I've never even met people who's kids do nails. Where are they?
Just curious.

OH yeah, we have MANY of them in OH. "Black" malls reak of nail polish, and it is not just Koreans, the mall I work in, Cleveland, there is a Korean and Vietnamese Nail shop, and they don't like each other.

Korean nail shops are mostly on the East Coast, NYC area. The rest of the country has mainly Vietnamese nail shops.
I read somewhere, I think AsianWeek, that something like two thirds of all nail shops in America are Viet-owned.

when i get my haircut I almost always go to a vietnamese or korean place...they operate all the best beauty salons in my area...the chinese places are cheap but not so great in my experience, and of course commercial places like SuperCuts suck big time 'cause they don't know how to cut like straight black hair or whatever *shrug* I dunno

you mean y'all don't go to good ol' fashion barbers???
actually I got a decent cut at aggies, a barbershop in davis. I've been to several 'white' salons, and yea... I always ended up with a crappy haircut. What gives?
Asian salons are best in s.f., because you pay less, and they tend to be better at cutting your hair. Now if you're willing to pay over 15 bucks for a haircut, then you might as well go to a stylist in s.f. I know a friend who pays like 40 or 60 dollars for a cut. And this is a straight guy mind you... His sisters drag him along to get a haircut. Of course they pay. =)

If the person who cuts your hair doesn't know how to cut dark hair it's going to look bad. Dark hair needs to be cut a certain way so that you can't see the layers. Also a lot of folks don't know how to cut bone straight hair.

Ohh man, I thought that was some weird Korean tradition. Anyways, my dad used to cut my hair when I was little and all kids at school used to make fun of me saying that I got a haircut with a nail-clipper.

No, I know what you mean. I can get my hair cut at almost any regular salon (though I have a preferred salon and stylist) but we have to drive out to see an Asian stylist to cut my husband's hair.

Yeah, the Chinese places in SF were the best! Haircuts only cost like 8-10 bucks and they were always good and fast. I've yet to find any even remotely comprable places here, even a Korean place.

i've never seen nail salons owned by koreans, and I haven't seen or known any koreans who does nails. There used to be this nail salon a few stores down from my parents restaurant that was owned by vietnamese people. There are a lot of vietnamese owned nail salons in st.louis... especially in the more working class districts where most of the clientelle are black. Just an observation.

i guess thats the difference between you and me...
cuz like no matter how much money i have... i dont see it worth spending my money on getting my hair cut anymore... i mean, the last time i went to a salon of some sort... was when i was like a freshman in college... and that was like in 1990 or so...
