View Full Version : My bonehead baseball question

This may sound like a dumb question but I feel perfectly justified since I don't follow the sport:

How the hell are you supposed to know who's going to be pitching in relief? I've figured out that there's this thing called "pitching rotation" amongst the starters, but the bullpen seems just that -- this little stable of pig pitchers waiting to clean up on call, whenever that may be.

Well you can try to guess by how much work the relief pitcher has been getting recently, how well they match up with certain opponents(individuals vs. team lineups), how tired the other pitchers are, whether the pitcher is more of a specialist, swingman or closer, perhaps, whether or not the dh is in use, or how soon the pitcher is coming up to bat, whether or not the pitcher is a groundball/flyball pitcher, etc.

Sheesh.

lmao

you're right that it's just a stable of pitchers, that specialize in getting hitters out but have less stamina

Generally there's no rhyme or reason to when relief pitchers pitch. But closers (the guys who get saves) pitch late in games when their team is leading a close game. So closers for teams who win a lot of close games will get more work than other closers.

Otherwise, its pure guesswork.

Try to find the LEFT HANDED SETUP MAN.

He'll generally be on the mound at least 4 times a week.

Yes...the LHRP is a great place to seek out "Holds."

I added Holds to make sure that middle relievers would have a place on the rosters.

I dunno it seems to me like people have 6 or 7 starting pitchers and just rotate them off the bench on their starting day. Is there any way to prevent people from doing that?

lethal

People can do that, but not all the pitching categories are counting stats. For example, Ks are a counting stat, since the more you pitch, the more Ks you'll get, but ERA and WHIP are averages, so even if you rotate your starters, these numbers could go up.

Take me for example: Pedro gave up 10 runs on Sunday, which made my ERA go way up. I lost that category to CSB cause I pitched Pedro on Sunday.

It's still early in the week but I am winning against Tai Pan Bakery Power. And he is in first place.

I'd just like to highlight the fact that although my overall record ain't that great, I'm still 2-0.

Weekly head-to-head fantasy leagues are wild. After going nuts in the first two weeks, by Dada All Stars are hitting just .185 with zero home runs this week. My pitching has picked up, though.

I still love my team for the long haul. And it is a long season....

Well if we are going to allow this, can you change the settings and allow 3 more slots for SP without changing the roster size?

I can't log in on weekends and rotate some of my peeps in.

I know you can move ahead two or 3 days in the schedule, but sometimes the changes dont stay. Also everyone else who is doing it wont have to keep looking up when each SP takes the mound.

If you don't change the roster size then it wont matter at all, and people can still bench their SPs if they dont want the stats to count.

Also, we should take Errors into account so that defense is reflected in here. Most people will have 0 for this every week, so it wont make that much difference, but we gotta give the truly good defensive players some kind of credit.

You can change the settings after the season has started, right?

What do the rest of you think?

lethal

I can't change thse things anymore. All I can do now is change the maximum roster size.

But, there's 4 SP slots and 3 generic P slots, 7 possible SPs isn't enough? You can rotate your pitchers in and out, plus you can change your roster ahead of time, just click on the day that you want to make the changes to.

I think the pitching roster requirements are pretty reasonable. It's doubtful you'll ever miss one of your starting pitcher's outings (the changes do work okay)...

If you played him, you would've beaten me in BA, since I won by a single point.

Fantasy baseball. I wanna play. Am I too late?

Guess who feels stupid. Mememe. I just saw that there was a post dedicated solely to Fantasy Baseball at the top of the different topics. Sorry.
