View Full Version : frivolous spending

Well, I have relatively cheap tastes. the most expensive item i bought for mostly frivolous reasons was my laptop, using my dad's money, though. :D
it cost a bit under 1300, I think, and I said I needed it for school, but in actuality, what I REALLY wanted to use it for, in the main, was to hook it up to the ethernet in the library so i could d/l stuff.
the second most frivolous things i bought-- actually the MOST frivolous in terms of sheer uselessness, were dvds. again technically using my dad's money cuz he gave me a flat amount of cash my first year in grad school. total amount spend on that stuff was probably low hundreds?
and i occasionally buy cds. which is probably the most frivolous, since it's easy for me to dl mp3s and convert them into .wav file.
edit: i forgot to add: the most frivolous of all, perhaps. i had saved up YEARS of chinese new year money in hs, and then i blew it all on the senior prom! where i didn't even have a date. w0000t!
but for #2 and #3, i was sometimes hit by an anti-bootlegging conscience thanks to one of my friends. but those anti-bootlegging spells really last a short time. :)
and occasionally charities have guilt tripped me into giving thr phone calls, but I've decided i'm gonna be hard-hearted and just outright tell people no. cuz otherwise there's no end to spending money and i gotta take care of my needs first.
ok i know that's a pathetic way to start a thread on frivolous spending but when i make more money, i'll have more expensive things to spend it on. B)

I buy too much car stuff just to see what works and what does not. Wasteful hobby. I bought two Rolex watches within the past month but I know I can recover that money due to the excellent resale value.

I have absurd runs of spending. For instance, I won't really buy anything for several months and them, during a week or several weeks I start throwing down hundreds on shit I don't need like an mp3 player, dvds, new shoes, or whatever. I'm a binge spender.

frivolous spending? well, not even mentioning school, in september I bought a shitty HP laptop for $1000; in december i took a trip to Japan (from HK, not from here!) at a total cost of about $500, just now I went back to Cali on a $200 plane ticket but then ended up spending money going out to lunch and dinner with friends like every day for a week. oh yeah and just last weekend we blew $150 buying alcohol for this party, but split between the 4 of us it was only like $40 a person. Oh well before now I never really spent that much money on trips or anything, didn't even own my own computer through all of high school and most of college (this laptop now is my first one), whatever of my paychecks didn't go into rent or food sat around in savings.
In high school my biggest expense was either my senior year trip to London (but the plane ticket still turned out to be cheaper than going home to Cali) or prom, once in junior year and once in senior year. I've always had occasional bursts of frivolous spending on clothes. And I'm usually buying books (books for class, books for fun, reference/tutorial books) every couple of weeks throughout the year.

No he couldn't have. Believe me he would have had to spent enormous sums of money to get a girl that's willing to put up with him!

me too, all my money (the little I have) has been going to the cash register at Diesel.
I bought a pair of $300 sunglasses that have such a light shade that it doesn't work to protect your eyes from the sun
I bought a pair of jeans at guess for $90 and only used it about three times and it's now left in the closet
I used to buy a hole bunch of stuff from the grocery store (back in college) that I would use once or maybe twice and then throw away. Stuff like a new Shampoo, new conditioner, new brand of hair gel, air freshner, a new type of chocolate or candy, crap like glow in the dark goo, etc, etc...
And I've been buying a pack of cigarretes pretty much everyday for the last 2 years, which in the course of 1 year it's a huge expenditure.

I bought a pair of Bruno Magli's last month...that and expensive dinners and clothes and electronics are my major frivilous expenditures...but then again...broke law students can't really afford too many of those things luckily...

i should not be on this thread . . . .
but then again, it's all uhm, relative as to how ONE person might define frivilous compared to another . . . .
fuck me shoes = $430 .... not frivilous.
logo emblazoned purse = $1600 . . . frivilous.

you don't need to be royalty to own part of a country. you can just have yourself a lil' coup d'tat. and voila! it's yours!

yeah.. its MSRP.
Navi Coupes are around 37 - 38k MSRP
n infiniti dealers arent supposed to do any markups(they already make a ton on the car. I heard the invoice was around 30 or 29)
so lucky cause usually there's a waiting list.
I dont like the white or blue colors they have in the G35..
Silver is too common too...
i dunno I just like black cars. cuz they look the best.
