what's up with these stereotypes that koreans have of chinese men treating their women better than korean men do, and that chinese women are more dominating than korean women?
i don't get a sense of that from my korean friends.

i'll say what i said to my boy "ultimate korean power" dave kim, when he asked me that question, especially in regards to his cousin susan. i said to him: "son, chinese guys just hide it better. for example: we wear our wife beaters underneath our dress shirts, as opposed to korean men, who wear it in plain daylight for all to see."
another example: would be: korean dude_001 demands and barks order for his lady to grab him a beer. chinese dude_001 hints and suggests that a beer would be nice right now and how great it would be if she can get you one from the fridge.
in order to get from point A to Point B is thru the path of least resistance.
as for chinese women: chinese women, korean women same shit for women in general. they're all planning an early grave for you in the long run.
edit: i'm kidding!

well i would say that the one korean girl that i briefly dated was kind of quiet and submissive, whereas i've dated chinese girls from different spectrums of demanding and submissiveness. but i always thought that was an isolated case with that particular girl. don't have personal experience with how korean guys treat their women.

Just to set all of you straight, Meena's independent and dominating. But she'll walk on your back without stilettos if you ask nicely.
I've heard that mainland Chinese men are good husbands since they're basically raised by their mothers. They usually have a deep respect for their wives' wishes as a result.
Taiwanese and Korean men have a more dominating reputation due to the Japanese influence that came from colonialization. They're used to a more male-dominanated situation in their households.

ah yes, here's a man who's been in a subway car filled with korean teens. I've had my fill off these clones. You know the ones i'm talking about. the 5'6'' k-girl with her 4 friends talking and yelling at each other in korean, talking bout their "gansta" boy friends and crap like that. and then comes their shrill cries and laughter and their god awful cell phones, decked out and customized like a rice-mobile, with all the flash and class of a thailand whore house. yes they have ruined many good naps for me on the train.

I endured a stereotype from Korean individuals not long ago...
It was like this....
I was in Canada over the summer...My friend and I were dining in a restaurant in Korean town...these two Korean girls and one Korean guy were sitting a few tables away from us...
The Korean guy and one of the Korean girls kept on looking at me...
I thought to myself... "Yeah they know I am hot..."
My friend and I were like the only people in a room full of Koreans and we were speaking Chinese to each other...on top of that I am very Fobbish looking...
That table of 2 Korean girls and one Korean guy were so totally speaking Korean to each other until Korean girl number 1 bursted out in English with something like "Did you know that in China...they have to squat in the bathrooms....that don't flush..." The guy was like" Uh.." Then Korean girl number 2 said something like "I think... that was a long time ago"...then girl number one was like "No...that is how it is today..."
It was so obvious that the comment was designated for this listener because I looked over there and number one gave me a dirty look...
My friend and I looked at each other and apparently he thought it was kind of funny...mostly because of the blatant bursting out in English from Korean thing...
I thanked the lady that worked there when we were leaving as it is habitual to me...got the silent repsonse...probably because she was not proficient in English as she was obviously an older generation individual...
Korean international students kick ass though...!!!
Korean guys= HOT HOT... :D

emotionally high maintenance doesn't even begin to cover it. she wants you to run her life for her and accompany her every moment. I never understood it, they're so assertive and direct before they get attached ...

mindfucking is not fun stuff....due to my gullibility, I have been practically on my knees and ready to apologize before she burst out laughing and saying she was just joking when 'pretending' to hate me for what I did or failing to meet certain standards. So basically, I look stupid when she gets mad at me, and then I look even more stupid when I find out that she was playing around. I look like an asshole, and then like some gullible sensitive guy who overreacts, in that exact order.

Just go to Maryland Institute College of Art, there's plenty of hot single korean girls since not many guys study art. Actually the hole place is packed of single hot women. I don't know why they say it. I think the general idea was that farmers live in the south and all the educated scholars and rich people lived in the north. This was true for the longest time when Korea was still one.
Therefore the south would be populated with strong manly farmboys and farmgirls, while the north would have light skinned beautiful well mannered women, and wussy scholarly men who loved books and their status more than their wives.

Back to the topic...
All of these are just stereotypes. I think the more American you are, the more you stray away from these stereotypes. Not all guys are chauvinistic, and not all girls are bitches.
Korean men: the more "Korean" the more tendency to be chauvinistic and domineering. (They do still love their wives.)
Korean women: the more "Korean" you are, the greater tendency to be submissive, materialistic, and superficial.
It's not gender thing as much as it is a Korean culture thing. Korea these days has become one of the most materialistic, superfical cultures in the world. Just look at the divorce rates and number of plastic surgeries for Korea alone. Among the highest in the world.
That alone speaks volumes.
Among my Korean friends, the more Americanized (not necessarily how long you lived in the US, but your mindset) you are, the less you find these stereotypes.
As far as Chinese men/women. Most of my friends are Taiwanese, and those dudes are generally very much like traditional Korean men. They can be chauvinistic but they do love their wives. Also, I personally have dtaed Taiwanese girls and HK girls. I spent the most money on HK girls.
Why? In the states, people from Taiwan and HK usually have a lot of money. Why? Cause they must have a lot to move to the US. Moreso if they move to, say, London.
Not so with Korean-Americans. Most Korean immigrants that came in the 70's and 80's came because of the lack of social-class mobility. Those Koreans came with littel or no money and were mostly from the lower or middleclass. They came for a better opporunity for success. BUT.... Some Koreans want to protray success with fancy cars and nice clothes... ignoring savings and retirement etc.... So... many kids see this and get spoiled... thus the materialism...
OK, that is all for now...

i don't know about taiwanese people, but this is not true for HK people. the US allowed immigration only because of family relations. it's canada that allows immigration because of money. that's why there are a lot of rich HKers in vancouver and toronto. the wave of immigration from HK to the US (as well as to canada and australia) peaked during the mid 80s to about the mid 90s, and that was also when the HK economy was at its peak. but even so, when my own family came (from HK) in '87, we didn't have much money.

wow.
i've NEVER heard that before.
and knowing a lot of chinese men, i so don't see that either.
weird...
i can't really say whether or not that generalization is true.. about korean men disrespecting their women. or that chinese women have more hand in their relationship with chinese men. of those that i know, i don't see any pattern.
i did know a bunch of korean people in university that showed these traits. the women were insecure, catty and gossipy. the men were a bit better, but once they got a hot women, they were domineering and controlling.
do i use this as a generalization?
no.
because i decided that that group were too invovled w/ just themselves and fed off of each other's negativity and influenced each other badly.
in other words, it was just my unfortunate luck to experience such a fucked up group.

It's pretty much a well known thing even amongst overseas Chinese that Korean and Japanese men are rumoured to be mainly of the brutal sort to their wives.
Having said that I've known a fair few Cantonese men who beat up their wives.

Maybe i'm the only one who doesn't know any wifebeaters. Amongst my relatives in Taiwan the women in the household seem to run the show..everything from the finances down to what type of chicken is going to be ordered or cooked for dinner. It's rather amusing.
I think Thai and Vietnamese women are cool though. Just a different cultural attitude compared with the mainstream NE set.

After skimming through this thread, it seems apparent that there's a perception that Korean guys (and girls) stereotype. There doesn't seem to be, however, anything particularly consistent about these alleged stereotypes. Some Koreans apparently think that Chinese guys enjoy getting dominated by their women. But Koreans also seem to think that Chinese guys beat down on women and cheat on them.
