The 5th Annual KAAN Conference, "One People, Two Histories: Adoption As Part of 100 Years of Korean Immigration," will take place on Friday, July 25th through Sunday, July 27th at the DoubleTree Crystal City Hotel in Arlington, Virginia. The 2003 conference will celebrate 100 years of Korean immigration to the United States, and will mark the 50th anniversary of the armistice that ended the Korean War.

Keynote speaker will be Helie Lee, author of "Still Life with Rice" and "In the Absence of Sun," the incredible story of her family's effort to bring nine members of their family out of North Korea to safety in the south. Adam Pertman, author of "Adoption Nation," and Senator Paull Shin of Washington, will be featured speakers. As part of its year-long celebration of Korean American immigration, the Smithsonian Institution is sponsoring "Korean American Adoptees Dialogue" on Thursday, July 24th.
