From BlueTriangle.org (http://bluetriangle.org/home.htm):

We call on people everywhere to come together for the second February 20 National Day of Solidarity with Muslim, Arab and South Asian Immigrants. We are at a critical and historic moment. This time they are coming for the Muslim, Arab and South Asian immigrants. Now is the time to sound the alarm and act.

In the face of forced registrations and the detention of up to 1,000 immigrants, a demonstration of 3,000 in Los Angeles on December 18 carried signs that said, “What’s Next? Concentration Camps?” We applaud the brave demonstrators, most of whom are themselves immigrants. They dared to protest at a time when immigrants from the Middle East are subjected to roundups and indefinite detention without charges. Can we do anything less? This demonstration was a moral challenge to us all.

January 10 was the deadline for immigrant men from 13 mainly Muslim countries to register with the Immigration and Naturalization Service. In over 15 cities, people of all different nationalities organized protests and press conferences. Many wore the blue triangle with the names of the disappeared. Opposition and resistance are growing. But we have much more to do if we are to stop the increasing repression.

I will be participating! My husband is Chinese-Indonesian and this issue certain concerns us. (His family originally emigrated from China to Indonesia 3 generations ago). My hubby doesn't have to register, but his bro is on a working visa (and was on student visa for the past 6 years) and he has to register. If this registration is indeed in the interest of national security, then the policy should be for all immigrants!

i went to this the other day... it was like a cultural event with spoken word poetry, asian hip hop.. speeches, and they had a film about the discrimination and hate crimes against arabs, muslims and south asians of ny... also, they talked about the 'disappearance of arabs, muslims and south asians in the us... ppl who have been arrested and detained just based on their ethnicity, looks and mere suspicion of being terrorists... and omg, i live in paterson, nj... a community highly known for its arab community... and i got to read the Blue triangle newletter how there have been 81 arabs who have been arrested and detained in the passaic county jail... which is just a few blocks away from me... when it comes to surrounding the 9/11 event...

anyways, i bought my howard coble petition to this event.. and the arab, muslim and south asian ppl there that night... DEFINITELY heard about howard coble... and was glad to sign the petition... so the word is out there... but i think its IMPERATIVE that this GETS MORE MEDIA ATTENTION...

anyways TODAY the 21st.. theres gonna be a demonstration outside the INS buliding in ny.. to rally against special registration..
and their list of demands are..

-Stop special registration
-Stop the detentios and deportations
-Stop the repression of immigrant communities
-Stop raicial profiling o arabs, muslims, south asians, and all communities of color
-Stop all attacks on civil liberties
-End all repressive 'anti terrorism' legislation...

anyways, i cant go to this rally today.. cuz i'm headed to washington DC at any moment now... but i met someone at the at the National day of Solidarity event last night... i gave him a bunch of my howard coble petitions to him... and he's gonna be collecting signiatures for me...
