Did anyone else go to the Asian-American Expo in Pomona, near LA this weekend? While I was there there was a booth set up for scientology. A white lady came up to me and my friend and asked if "we could speak English" and that "we looked like nice american girls."
I was offended by the fact that there were scientologists at an Expo where people were selling goods, there weren't even Buddists or Christians there. For those of you who don't know, scientology is a cult (www.scientology-lies.com, www.xenu.net) which regular scams money from its followers. They had translated their "bible" dianetics into Chinese. Scientology has already had members arrested in Europe and even banned in Greece. It obviously could never make in China. I found it kind of sickening that they would think to exploit the 2% of Chinese-Americans living in the US. It really bothered me that they were there. My friend was offended by her statements and we proceeded to tell her off.
However the fact that they were there really worried me, as they also had a Chinese man working for them. I hope event organizers of this sort pay attention to this group and realize that they're dangerous.
Does anyone else here know about how cults like Scientology may have begun inflitrating the Asian Pacific-American Community?

Depends on your definition of "cult" I guess...

Oh, and welcome to YW:)
Always considered Scientology a business that the employees (or followers, as they call them) don't know they're working for. Be careful though, as they are apt to sic their lawyers on any negative remarks.
The "do you speak english" question is certainly offensive, and I'm not sure how that's supposed to gain suc... followers among the Asian community. I don't think they're really into making inroads to China, as their business model isn't really suited to the environment, but perhaps other Asian countries. I find it more likely they find the immigrant population, or perhaps unreligious in some cases, easy targets, perhaps offering a sense of welcome and community they think are lacking. I wonder if they do the same in Latin expos there, given the generally Catholic following.

It's entirely possible that the woman asked so she knew how to change her pitch - marketing scientology to an immigrant with little American cultural knowledge or English skill is a different task from marketing it to a much more aware AA. I wouldn't be surprised if Scientologists are actively going after the immigrant Asian population, as people who are a long way from home (and thus unfamiliar with their new environment and without any supporting friends or relatives close at hand) are the classic target for cults.

Isn't Tom Cruise a scientologist? Doesn't matter, scientology is still dumb.
Yes, he is a Scientologist, which is how he met his former wife Mimi Rogers. Scientology is one reason cited for his divorce with Nicole Kidman, who is Roman Catholic. Strangely enough, Scientology has also been cited as the reason for his split with Rogers; that she was losing her celebrity status and that perhaps a converted Kidman would be a bigger draw, orchestrated by the Scientologists themselves. Celebrities are compensated in several forms for their continued... endorsement of the... business. When they try to leave, they are... persuaded not to.

Our aims, as stated by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard are:
“A civilization without insanity, without criminals and without war, where the able can prosper and honest beings can have rights, and where man is free to rise to greater heights.?
Huh, okay.
that sounds noble enough
how do they go about striving for this?

scientology is the biggest scam ever made.
its such a crock of shit and its so ridiculous its funn.
ok.
that "noble line" for peace and shit is all a scam
It was started by
L Ron Hubbard who is a collossal fraud. everything about him is a fraud.
I went into his museum in Hollywood with some interesting books that have the truth about him.
He was never a admiral. he was a captain and he was demoted for INCOMPETENCE. He engaged war
with a piece of metal at the bottom of the ocean on the westcoast for 2 weeks thinking it was a japanese sub.
dropped over 30 depth charges
anyway. basically they start you off with a personality test type thing.
its a general mess with your mind psychologically thing
and they try to get you to buy a course in dianetics which is supposedly gonna make you feel better
as you buy more and more courses you get deeper into the organization.
the religion in a nutshell is a confused concoction of crackpot, dangerously applied psychotherapy, oversimplified, idiotic and inapplicable rules and ideas and science-fiction drivel that is presented to its members (at the "advanced" levels) as profound spiritual truth.
basically they brainwash you(Im not kidding) they even have their own legal "slave" camps called Sea Org
where is where you go if you aren't obedient.
Their headquarters is in international waters guarded by warships(Im not kidding)
their US HQ is in florida(forget which city) heavily guarded by dudes with assault rifles(not kidding either. there are pictures to prove both of these)
at the height of scientology's power. and due to Hubbard's paranoia. he thought the FBI and CIA were keeping tabs on him and everything. scientology had a spy network on every major western agency.
CIA, FBI, MI6, Interpol. They got so daring that they managed to steal all the files the FBI had on the church.
In retaliation the FBI invaded their headquarters having to fight their way in(not kidding about this either)
today they are a specter of their former self. The hubbard family no long controls the church.
the members are taught that "noble motto" until they go up the ladder of the church to "clear"
which means they are clear of all abberations of the mind(this is when they have sapped your reasoning and you are basically a brainwashed idiot). Then the levels go up to OT(operating Thetan) by the way. Tom Cruise is like OT4 or something.
anyway here's proof that hubbard really was insane. here is the truth of the whole religion that is kept secret from its members(revealed by a former OT6 or 7 member) in hubbards own hand writing
Xenu was supposed to have gathered up all the overpopulation in this sector of the galaxy, brought them to Earth and then exterminated them using hydrogen bombs. The souls of these murdered people are then supposed to infest the body of everyone. They are called "body thetans". On the advanced levels of Scientology a person "audits out" these body thetans telepathically by getting them to re-experience their being exterminated by hydrogen bombs. So people on these levels assume all their bad thoughts and faulty memories are due to these body thetans infesting every part of their body and influencing them mentally. Many Scientologists go raving mad at this point if they have not done so already.
now doesnt that sound like one fucked up pot or acid trip to you?
oh yeah. It was. Hubbard was also a heavy druggie and also a devil worshipper at one time into the black magic thing. He had alot of personal correspondence with the person who wrote the satanic bible.
How can the Co$ exist today you ask?
Same reason the Catholic church still exists after all its crimes(example female kidnapping and slavery in the UK up until 1996. (http://abcnews.go.com/sections/wnt/DailyNews/Ireland_abuse030126.html)
They have lawyers and political power.
in fact the Church of Scientology is the most litigious organization in the US.
They have sued websites like slashdot.org for mentioning things about the church there.
and due to not having enough money to defend. the church won.
hmm yeah im done with bashing the CoS follow the links she posted...
You'll find hours of reading.
and PLEASE for the LOVE OF GOD/Buddha/Pickyourpoison do not compare Christianity to Scientology
there is no comparison between the two.
People say religion has caused so many deaths
but rather its the PEOPLE and their misguided interpretations of it.
People only see what they wanted to see.
