Everyone seems to be wondering why Muslim terrorists are so quick to commit
suicide. Let's see now . . No beer, No booze, No bars, No television, No
cheerleaders, No baseball, No football, No basketball, No hockey, No golf,
No tailgate parties, No hooters, No pork BBQ, No hot dogs, No burgers, No
lobster, shellfish, or even frozen fish sticks. Rags for clothes and towels
for hats. Constant wailing from the guy next door because he's sick and
there are no doctors. Constant wailing from the guy in the tower. No
chocolate chip cookies, No Christmas. You can't shave, Your wife can't
shave, You can't shower to wash off the smell of donkey cooked over burning
camel dung. The women have to wear baggy dresses and veils at all times.
Your donkey has a better disposition, than your wife. Then they tell you that when you die
it all gets better! No mystery here.

I'm sorry blkazngirl but I find your message to be bordering on offensive... I know it's intended as a joke against terrorists only, but this kind of imagery easily carries over to all Middle Eastern Americans... as I mentioned before, their image in America is already pretty crappy, so why reinforce these types of stereotypes just for a few laughs?

In America, being Middle Eastern is almost synonymous with being a terrorist.

I have Middle Eastern friends who would certainly not be amused by the above comments. Sorry to put a damper on things, I know you intended it all in fun.

Life fucking sucks. You're getting opressed daily. You are poor and starving and see no way out.

Religious authorities, whom you respect, in your community say there is heaven waiting for you if you kill yourself in the name of your religion while killing your perceived opressors.

The better question is, "Why not"?

i agree up to a point. i wanted to know if there was a smell associated with muslim women b/f i said anything tho. but she also has a point (don't know if it was intended or not). the young ppl who live in countries w/ a clerical muslim bent HAVE SUCKY LIVES. they are poor, have no hope, and no freedom. they see the west and they get jealous.

the only thing blkazngirl said that i thought would be offensive is the "smell like donkey" with same disposition part. the rest of it was fair commentary.

Lighten up it's friday. In fact, it was from one of my Muslim friends.

All right, all right, it's all good. If your Muslim friend likes to tell such jokes, so be it.

I just feel racism easily swings both ways... it makes me a bit uncomfortable to see black jokes or Middle Eastern jokes or white jokes on an Asian site where we make such a big deal about anti-Asian racism.

Technically, the Middle East is in Asia. Unless this site states EAST-Asian countries, this joke applies here. Also, here in America most people don't give a damn on what other people and countries think of them. We think we are #1. As Rene Decarte said, we are #1. Any negative image of us stems from the fact that we have better economy, government, music, sports, foods, religions (we got everything), etc. In others words, other countries are envious of the US. This brings the question, if we are so bad, why are so many people trying to come here instead of other countries? cough* we #1 cough*

One thing missing from this joke is that you must kill yourself AND infindels (Muslim clerics in Middle East carry broad definition of infindel). Also, one must find the difference between racist and racial jokes. For instance:

Racist joke: "I love blacks. As a matter of fact, I think everyone should own one."
Racial joke: "How could you tell that an Asian burglarized your house?" "Your homework is done, your PC is upgraded, and two hours later he's still trying to back out of your driveway." (note: delete if inclined)

One is racist because it joked about a harsh reality in history. The other joked about stereotypes. While both are indeed offensive, the racial joke does not whitewash reality. So a message to all (especially fellow Asians): lighten up.

I know this doesn't have to do with the thrust of this email, but it reminded me of an article I'd recently read. It had to do with trying to pressure governments of nations who seem to have a high rate of suicide bombers; to severely tax the families of the bombers.

You see, when a person commits a suicide bombing, he is hailed as a great warrior and for making the ultimate sacrifice for his beliefs (and that of the other fanatics). In addition to having eternal happiness in heaven for this 'great' deed, back home his family is also extremely well taken care of financially and otherwise by the fanatical group. So, in order to try to curb suicide bombing, they figured screw em, lets hurt them where it counts, your family. We're gonna penalize you so hard that you're family is going to suffer for your crimes, all the money that you're family would have recieved is now going to be taxed away.

I like this idea alot, I don't remember where I read about it, but I'll try to look this up.

Hmm..

Well here is a perfect case of PC taking over humor.

Yea I think that those comments would be offensive, but people need to learn to laugh.

well as we discussed in other threads, I don't think most of participants in this site would consider Middle Easterners as part of the "we" in the phrase "We Asians" (most usually referring to east or southeast Asians). Furthermore they don't consider themselves as part of that "we"; they're busy confusing their religious identity with their ethnic identity and imposing "Arab historical practise = Muslim identity" on the rest of the Muslim world.

Iraq would be a good place to start. Hussein, I heard, has a pretty effective way of dealing with agitators: he just brings their families in and kills them.

Regarding Muslims: all kidding aside, there's a big difference between Islam and fanaticism. Those of you who know any Muslims personally will probably attest that they're no more "crazy" than Homer Simpson's neighbor, Ned Flanders.

Fanaticism, however, is something else entirely. Adherents will use the rhetoric of religion to further their cause. Here in America, we're full of 'em.

Joke from one of my H.S. students:

You are an American soldier who has been captured by the Japanese in WW2. They take you to a POW camp and leave you in a lightly guarded cell with only your uniform and your boots and nothing else. There is a guard standing at the door and he has the key for you to get out. How do you get out?

Hint: remove your boot laces.

Answer: after removing your boot laces, sneak up behind the guard and use them to..........
[SIZE=14]BLINDFOLD HIM[SIZE=1]. Then take the key, open the door, and run away.

They all laugh at this one. I get it, but it's not THAT funny.

All I was saying was that as victims of racism, we Asians should be very careful in telling jokes about OTHER races.

I believe Shaq had a VERY similar response to yours over the whole Yao Ming joke, yet many Asians still are not satisfied with his attitude. Yet we turn around and go ahead and laugh at a joke that implies Middle Easterners smell bad? How hypocritical is that...

Yeah yeah, lighten up I know. Everyone go ahead and flame me, I can take it :)

P.S. BeTheReds I am assuming you were not offended at all over the whole Shaq/Yao Ming thing.

BeTheReds

Well actually I was not personally offended by Shaq's comments. Only I was disturbed that a celebrity like Shaq can say these types of things not thinking that possibly someone might be offended.
