My brother got one of those. A plastic one, and I think I remember my pops breakin' it over his ass.
Whatever was close at hand, so I guess: mah-jong sticks, coat hangers, fly swatters, belts, feather dusters (and not the feather end), chopsticks (the best b/c they always broke quickly), a hand, angry words, also a slipper, and I swear...a pair of pants - damn those zippers hurt.

True that, I am soo gonna use a leather belt on my kids; it gives them "character" and they need to suffer the same discipline as I did.

well asian parents generally love their kids more than non-asian parents love their kids. that's why they beat us. makes perfect sense to me! when i have kids i'm gonna kick their asses.
Love your kids? Prove it by beating them. (http://maddox.xmission.com/beat.html)

yeah i think we're just joking around. i mean there's beating and then there's beating. i have friends that took their parents to court. we're talking about being punched in the eye and stuff like that. honestly i have no idea how i'm going to discipline my future kids or whether or not i'll even have kids.

my mom tried to threaten me with a pointy big knife around the kitchen of the restaurant when i was little. she used to slap my hands a lot, but i got used to that kind of pain and only treated it as a "high five." She's spanked me with a metal stick that holds down the customer's orders from blowing away from the wind. My dad has hit me on the back of my head pretty hard for something i can't even remember. When i was 19, yes 19, my mom slapped me in the face b/c i went out with a white guy. she slapped me while my 8 year old brother was in the car. quite embarrassing. so, i shoved my mom in the car and told her never to slap me again. Um... I've been spanked by wooden back scratchers too. Goodness, how the hell did I make it this far in life? heheh

I've gotten beat with pots and pans, spatulas, the metal extension from the vacuum cleaner, branches from the front lawn, but the worse is just a good tightly clenched fist. That really sucked. My parents must have really loved me!

weirdest item would prolly have to be......a power cord from a computer....
Oh man, Adaon. You brought up a repressed memory. Damn dood.
When I was little, my sis and I were playing with our cherished barbies when my mom flipped out about the state of our room. She reached over and ripped the heads off the barbie dolls and then smacked us with the decapitated bodies. I haven't touched a barbie since.

hahha. oh man. so much damn beating. my mom chased after me with those feather dusters before. those things hurt like hell. i either run for the blankets when she comes after me with it or if i know i did something bad, i usually hide it beforehand. but punishment was usually a lecture and then standing still until an entire inscense was burnt out so i can "think about what i did wrong".

wasn't loaded, but yeah. i climbed over an electric fence with a couple of friends, it was raining, and we got lucky the fence wasn't on. anyway, we we're back in this area touching things and setting off alarms inside the building (on accident). the cops came back there with a dog. my dad asked me if i wanted to die doing something stupid like that, and thus the gun for emphasis. man oh man.
Y'all know that if you run, the punishment is worse yeah? I got that after the first couple chases. My mom used to be a track star in Taiwan. My daddums stays out of it because:
Scenario: Kids running away from mum, hides behind dad. Mother goes, "you want to stand up for them? Fine! You can take their punishment instead!" *smack smack*
Daddy learns fast too.

hahaha. hell yes. but she only hit me lightly like once or twice after i stubbed my toe. i screamed a lot just to show her how much pain i was in so she shoudl would stop. but my mom stopped disciplining me that way around age 8.
i'm the first child so my sister was never hit. lucky her. i was the guinea pig. if i turned out to be screwed up child, they always have the second child.

I thought only Black's used anything to spank their kids. I remember my dad came home and almost broke his neck on a Hot Wheel set! I tell you, he swung that orange plastic track wack'in any and everything that moved. Like Jet Li in when he does that belt thing! My brother's could sit for weeks!
Me? I would get spanked with the fly swatter, plastic flip-flops, plastic spoons from my mom. Dad was a push over, all I had to do was blink my big brown eyes and cry. :(

Oh, yeah, I can't forget the many hours-long lectures.
One time my mom accused us of something, but she didn't know which of us did it. So she lined the three of us up and asked "Did you do it?" Reply, "No." Response, "SMACK!" and then go to the next. She did this for two hours, until my brother admitted he did it. But he was lying, he didn't do it. None of us did. It was my dad.
Later on, when we got smart(er) we'd get all the wooden spoons and whatever and pre-break them, just cracking them enough that they be usable, but would break the first couple times we got hit.

Not sure if this should be a new thread but, these days all the psychologists and shrinks maintain that this sort of child corporal punishment leads to antisocial, violent and psychotic behavior as adults. We as little people, have customarily grown up on the receiving end of violence by our own folks. Have any of you good people felt like taking out a section of the populace or abusing people or accept violence because of the regular beatings? In your psyche, how has it manifested if at all, in your actions or behavior? Do you feel the urge toward violence as an effective tool in certain situations?

OMG! This is horrific! My parents never beat us! Instead, they'd lock us away in the far part of the house where no one frequented and left us there for an entire day (sometimes two but with food, of course. They're parents, not negligent monsters!) When you're five years old it's pretty damn frightening to be imprisoned in some old bedroom and having to spend the night there alone. :(

Sometimes I would just be sitting eating or whatever, just minding my business, and then *smack*. There would be yelling, but it was usually for me to stop running, not an explaination of why I was hit.
Especially if it was my mom, there were times I'd have to practically beg to find out why. (After I finished running about, of course.)

^ Yeah I got a ruler in kindegarten and 1st grade too.
The really bad kids got a paddle, it was wooden and the principal would smack you on the ass three times if they sent you to the office to get paddled.

I didn't get beat much.
It was always the threat of "no allowance" or "go to your room for 30 minutes" or "I'm gonna sell your nintendo games".
That was enough for me.

Well, this was when I was about 5 or 6 years old, which means it was around 1993-ish. Back then, we actually said grace before going to lunch (public schools, keep in mind). Now you didn't *have* to pray. But everybody did anyway.
I don't know if they still do that now.........................they don't do it at my school but I figured that's because I'm in high school now................now they'll just send you home, expel you, send you to alertnative school, or if you start up a fight, arrest you (which they've done several times this year, most of the time it was girls who got arrested, surprisingly).

I'd laugh if somebody got paddled now, LOL.
just their hands. spankings and slaps. and being shoved out the door.
most of that stopped before middle school, i think, because my parents found out what 'child abuse' meant, learned a lil about child psychology and the legal system.
thereafter, it was mostly guilttripping, lecturing, and yelling (pounding the table for effect).

... hand, feather duster, wallet, purse, coat hangers, slippers, rulers (wooden and metal), leather belts, bamboo sticks... etc...
I was beaten so much that by the time I was 9, I could just stand there and take it, because I could barely feel the pain.
By 10 years old, I punched the fridge and put a small dent in it, because I was so pissed off with my mother beating me for everything. She stopped. Then my parents took me out of taekwondo.
See, people would usually think it's my father who used to beat me, but he never laid a hand on me (except for once, when I said something really bad and he lightly tapped me on the cheek). It was my mother who beat the crap out of me.
