Uh, what's Southwest Asians? Other than that, I think Malays would consider themselves as Southeast Asians ... Dr. M certainly considers himself as one.
Personally, I'd consider almost all those groups as "Asians" (except Inuits) as long as people are clear this doesn't mean that they all belong to the same racial group. But when I say "we Asians" in my speech or writing, I'm almost always referring to Northeast Asians. I don't feel any special connection with a Pakistani or an Indonesian just cuz they came from the same tectonic plate as me, cuz their culture and race is completely different, and it's annoying to be lumped into the same category with them and hear people (whether whites or Asian-Americans) saying or assuming we all share some common interest and destiny as "Asian-Pacific Islander Americans"

Basically, west of Pakistan and south of the former U.S.S.R. Central Asian republics. (Arabs, Syrians, Turks, Armenians, Georgians, Kurds, Lebanese, etc.)

uh sure, I don't see why they shouldn't be considered Asian since they're on our continent, but if anyone ever suggested forming a political coalition with them so we could fight for "issues facing APIAs" I'd laugh in his face. Also I'm not sure they consider themselves Asian. A lot of them are too busy trying to define themselves as the sole bearers of the Muslim identity (e.g. haranguing non-Arab Muslims for not knowing how to speak some dialect of modern Arabic, which resembles Quranic Arabic about as much as English resembles Saxon). Even redneck Americans realize the difference between Northeast Asians and South/Southwest Asians, though they often mistake South Asians for Southwest Asians and Southwest Asians for plain old whites (or occasionally, blacks).

if i want to be specific, then i'll mention specifically which type of asians i'm talking about (east, southeast, south...)

I don't consider that group Asian, but I have known others Asians calling them Asian. In my opinion, the definition is being stretched way too far in that case.
I remember once one guy I know (from Hong Kong) called a Syrian guy Asian and I was thinking "what the fuck?". It also didn't help in my mind that the Syrian guy had extremely pale skin, freckles, red hair and blue eyes.
On an additional note, I have known some middle easterners who consider themselves Asian also.

Okinawans are Russian or Slavic? Could you elaborate? Also, I believe a number of current anthropologists disagree with the theory that India was invaded by Caucasians.

I always heard Okinawans were related to Taiwanese aborigines ...

I'll try to scare some up for ya. I clearly remember seeing it on a BBC documentary while I was in England, if that gives it any more credibility.
