View Full Version : Why is life worth living?

A lot of people who I've talked to who are low to immediate high risk to suicide literally do not see why life is worth living especially going through traumatic experiences or difficult situations. Of course, the person who feels this way must first recognize and acknowledge the reason to live, but what do you think makes life worth living?

For me, life is worth living because every day is a new experience. Plus, I'm good at making what seems to be like "bad things" into fun things. No matter what I'm doing, I'm having fun. If I stop having fun, something's wrong. :)

Life is worth living because I'm not giving up anything without a fight. Our ancestors survived wars, disease, famine, natural disasters... each generation has had its share of challenges, woes and successes. If they can prevail so can I.

Because, well, what's the alternative?

The fear of the unknown is reason enough for me.

Why is life worth living?

the girly side of me answers this question when i ask my myself time to time.
rainy days and frozen toes stuffed under pillows.
melting ice cream at the tip of the tongue.
wishes on digital clocks.
trembling in someone's arms.
being kissed.
scraping off stupid sprinkles on holiday cookies.
giving the finger to stupid drivers.
driving to the beach alone with top of the car down and singing along to boyband music.
skinny dipping.
butterfly kisses.
most importantly. those moments where i catch myself smiling for no reason.

Life tends to be more worth living when you can make someone else's life worth living.

So that i can eat my lovely abused and processed animal byproduct called meat (yum yum), rag on candians, because they are not a real country, drive my fast car, and live for battle on the roads of life.

their good tho, that and i forgot fur coats man, whenever i see baby seals i think hey that'd make an excellent coat, then i think " We Be Clubbing" ! The best way to raise animals is modify their genetic structure so that they survive better penned up and in small area's see! immagine a chicken that has enzymes that cook itself when killed or implanted cooking chemicals! that'd be so cool! Or a cow w/ explosive methane and nanites that when u want beef just explodes and cooks it self so cool. Or a fish that can live in any condition especially cooking vat bag, and both lives and is cooked in the same watery bag environment!

- self roasting chicken

- exploding steak

Every time someone says thank you because I was the ONLY person who only knew how to actively listen and be objective to their concerns and views.

Knowing I'm the FIRST person to know that a caller is suicidal, and that I'm doing the best that I can to help them through their experiences.

Knowing that my client responds to me well despite the limits he has as an autistic ten-year-old. Hearing him anunciate his words more clearly and asking and getting things more independently, and watching him demonstrate what he knows through various behavioral therapy techniques is VERY rewarding for me.

I don't get paid a lot, but the reward and the experience is enough for me to enrich myself and move ahead in life carrying those experiences.

Aside from work, I always love to see how my family has overcome obstacles still working as small fast food restaurant owners. Through this line of hard labor, they've paved the way for me to go to high school and college. They can be a pain in the neck sometimes, but I try to be positive. It's also very fulfilling to watch my "baby" brother grow into a studly 12 year old. hehe....

My FRIENDS! Life would be sooooo dismal without all the people who've strongly influenced my life. I've shared many laughs with them and I always look forward to continue this exchange.

No one looks forward to mistakes, but I think I wouldn't be who I am today despite all the crap that's happened in the past. Fiance (at the time) cheats on me... abusive boyfriend at age 17.. yahta...you know the sob stories. Anyway, sure these events weren't my fault, but what matters is that I learn from each of them. My resiliency has shaped me into a very confident person I believe. I've learned to be very open to others' point of views rather than be too quick to misjudge them. It's a valuable skill to learn.

After watching Vanilla Sky on video a few nights ago, do you think (figuratively speaking) that in life, you must first taste the sour before ever really tasting what is sweet? Ok, in other words, what is your take on suffering and how that works independently or interdependently with living and loving others and the self?

"To live is to suffer." Do you buy that or do you have another take on it?

Suffering allows you to appreciate the smaller things in life.

While I have to admit it's true, I hate to admit it, because I'm such a perfectionist. I always have tried, am trying, and will always try to live in a perfect world (or at least as close to one as I possibly can get). I need a reality check every five minutes.

You ask this question and don't want cynicism? Damn. You expect a lot.

Janet, after much thought on this subject under the kind of circumstances you've mentioned, I've come to the conclusion that life is worth living because you can't do anything to reverse the fact that you are born. You have your limited time here, so you should try to milk it and see what you can make out of it. Plus, committing suicide means that God has won his/her/its singular quest to damn you out of paradise by default and I'm not letting him/her/it win that easily.

I am not saying one should reject cynicism, but at least save it for later or for a rant. *

My sig line...

Yesterday is already a dream and tomorrow is only a vision, but today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Life is worth living to see what tomorrow brings. The future is hope...even for those who think they have no hope, the future has not been written. It always has the potential to be good.

To fully appreciate what you have, a person has to have been denied it in the past. Falling completely to the bottom helps a person understand what they do have and what the future can bring, but falling down is not a requirement. Even high achievers can see the good of the future.

What is life but the expectation of more?

suffering does make me appreciate life a lot more. i think if i hadnt been through the things ive been through id be a much different person. i see everything in a different perspective, sometimes its a good thing other times its a bad thing. sometimes i wish i could be like kids my age because its like all they seem to worry about is who to date or who to befriend or who hates who. it seems like a much simpler life to me to worry about lil trivialities. feel me? oh well.

its good knowing whats worth worrying about and whats not.

and whats worth living for? for me i guess its finding answers to some questions i got...

oh and cant forget sex, alcohol and drugs and the things you do while on drugs and drunk haha!!
