Crime has reportedly increased for the first six months of 2009 around Washington DC's Chinatown (Gallery Place/Chinatown Metro Rail station). DC police say that the crime is mainly targeting young adults who are in Chinatown for the night life there.

My cousin who lives near DC chinatown in a apartment bulding told me two years ago that crime was increasing in her neighborhood. A quick look at the DC Metropolitian Crime Report Maps (GIS that identifies crime reports by types by sites) verified my cousins' assessment. This is the first time in those two years that I found a general mainstream news source that reported that crime was increasing in DC Chinatown.
Normally, I would ignore such reports as old news - but I thought it was interesting that the criminals are attracted to the *nightlife* visitors (which is a coded reference to people who are visiting the Verizon *sports arena* Center - the *nightlife* magnet in DC Chinatown)
