Paradox

I admit i'm a little behind on the times since I just found out about this. I discovered this while reading some random film site that had interviews with directors then clicked on one bio about Quentin Tarantino. Surprise surprise, it turns out he won some token award from "Asian excellence awards" so I looked it up in wikipedia.
All I have to say is good god almighty.. what the fuck is this shit? Also, who finances an award show like this and how does it maintain enough interest to keep coming back year after year?
I don't mind hapas at all but actors like Sonja Sohn are pretty strongly identified as black on television. Also, I had to laugh at Rex Lee repping it up as best supporting actor. Oh and Kristi Yamaguchi? haha..
You know it's bad for asian-americans when you would prefer for there NOT to be an AA awards show at all.
edit: Oh the topic should be "Asian" "excellence" awards.

Will Mark-Paul Gosselaar be hosting the event because he's part Indonesian?
HAHAHHH....I remember someone posting about this before and this is what I said:
my sister and i watched this last week.
i asked how they were able to persuade random asians on the street to dress up and fill up the theater on such short notice.
Because it's true.

I remember a lot of Asians complaining about the lack of "actual" Asian representation on this show.
As I recall, it seems like anybody who is vaguely Asian is invited to this show (e.g., Rob Schneider, Keanu reeves).
I remember that a good number of winners on this show were hapas, South Asians, etc., (e.g., not "real" Asians).

The asian excellence awards is so Hollywood specific that there's no point in having it at all. There's too few asian-americans working in Hollywood to muster up any credibility. Plus they are giving awards to people like Tony Leung and Maggie Q who clearly aren't Asian-americans anyways.
There's already several awards shows in Asia which are legitimate. It would have been a better decision to roll the recognition of asian-americans into the greater pan-asian awards shows that already exist instead of half-assing it with people that don't even represent the community.

Maggie Q born and raised in Hawaii: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maggie_Q. She's also dated almost every Asian American man working in Asian film industry, probably for that very reason.

Ok I was wrong about Maggie Q's origins (I always thought she was a hapa raised in HK) but her career was still formed overseas.
Haha you weren't kidding though it looks like she really DID hump every famous overseas based Asian-American actor. (Edison Chen lol)
