Okay, so I don’t usually rant to a point where I post public messages but this incident has pissed me off at the personal level which I want everybody to know how BAD they treat “high roller” customers at EBISU RICHMOND.

So my friend and I were at EBISU this Thursday night chilling out, watching the hockey game. We had $65 on the tab at that point…….just 2L Asahi beer, a sushi boat, and some snack. Plus, we are going to order more food and drinks. Not sure about you but to me that’s an excellent table (and revenue per head) at any restaurants, at any night of the week.

Anyhow, my friend went to the bathroom and saw this promotion which you order a pitcher of draft beer and you get wings for 50% off. OK ok……first of all, the draft beer is $12.99 and our 2L Asahi is $32.99. Just to get my point across first.

So we asked the server if we can get the wings special since we ordered the 2 LITRES Asahi beer bottle. The server declined!! We were like WTF…..I asked her why then she replied “… you ordered Asahi, not draft”……..I was thinking to myself……we know what we ordered, don’t have to use this sarcastic tone on us! I asked her how much our bottle of 2L Asahi was ….and how much the draft pitcher was…….just to get my point across.

Anyhow, EBISU has a wings special and we ordered a SINGLE alcoholic beverage that is 250% (or a $20 premium) OVER AND ABOVE their requirements plus with other food items and we were declined of a measly $5 discount. You tell me, is that the way to treat a “high value” customers who is spending at least $40 per head for 1 table. You tell me! I will never go back to EBISU ever again.

If you ask for my advice, spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

You're right, they should have just given you the deal. However, the server probably isn't able to make that kind of substitution. A supervisor would have done it for you though...

You need to ask to see a manager when that happens.

Servers are untrained in handling the deals that the managers think up! They serve what management creates.

It is not the server's fault that you stopped going to Ebisu.

It's your inability to confront authority.

I found Ebisu to be ok, and our dinner for two cost under $20. Though because my GF thought the $20 i gave to her for safekeeping was hers. So me asking for it cause a little row with her. This was our first dinner date.

That was six months ago.

Now we look back at it as the bane of relationship: lack of communication.

Getting back to Ebisu Richmond, management improperty training might have led to the faux reason to stop going to Ebisu, but all in all, you didn't ask to see the manager. Therefore your boycott is due to inability to confront the issue with the manager.

They don't owe you 50 percent off on wings for imported beer.

Draft beer on the other hand is practically subsidized by Campbell's government as is chicken!

So I suggest you vote out Campbell while you're at it.

The reason why i flamed the OP at FB is because me and the GF had a first dinner date there.

Plus he never confronted the manager about this stupid policy.

He is boycotting Ebisu because of the server's attitude when having to deal with a couple drunk canucks fans who failed to read the fine print that when you buy a lot of draft beer, you can get 50 percent off wings.

i feel so outraged that this idiot is complaining about a Japanese restaurant rather than an izakaya.

As a former bar manager I understand. The point of the promotion was to move the beer which they had too much of, either that, or Ebisu is sponsoring the special and gives the bar money for every special that they sell (getting people to try the brand.) It's nothing to complain about.

Second, it's Japan. People must follow rules to the T. Once in subway I asked for a sandwich without one condiment and the person said he can't make it without it, then asked the manager if it was okay after my persistence.

I will correct you, and say that this is the Japanese way.

This guy boycotted Ebisu without confronting the manager, therefore most of my conclusions about him are close to the mark: a rash decision was made while inebriated.
