View Full Version : An occasional beer as painkiller

beer is a cheap painkiller even in low doses. with the current kink in the back due to a bad mattress and occasional sleeping over at my friend's place, i need such a painkiller.

the drawback is the potential of alcoholism, tho in my case with the relative low amounts i drink, i could knock back a can or two of COORS LITE a day, and not become a problem drinker, provided i have a meal before the can is drunk.

because i rarely drink, i have Jamaican style ginger beer as backup because ginger has anti inflammatory properties.

however, the best painkiller is a good 30 minute brisk walk.

it is working so far.

Baguazhang is a Chinese internal exercise system that emphasizes on walking around a large circle (with a diameter of 2.5 to 3 meters) with different "whole body" postures in a clockwise and counterclockwise motion. Depending on the Baguazhang system, the implementers usually walks around the circle (cw/ccw) a minimum of 18 times.

From personal experience, practicing this exercise properly can be helpful to the body too.

Well you see, Norm, it's like this . . . A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the heard is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

this is probably why i haven't gotten to bed.

i am trying to do some repetitive exercises consisting of slightly twisting to the left and right, while making wrist flips with my hands, while hearing upper vertebra in my neck go crack.

then i pretend i am cycling with my hands and make pumping motions with the arms.

for sure, this needs a soft approach rather than trying to widen the doorframe.

Doing exercise though right before bed can cause insomnia, dude. And I know you specifically need plenty of sleep every day so you can function. Look I don't need to be playing i-nurse here OK? Just saying.

Damn I need a beer. Screw coffee.

Edit:

With me it does'nt, it does the opposite effect, it makes me hyper and causes insomnia, in fact most doctors do not recommend drinking alcohol at night before bed for some ppl because of this strange property of ethanol to act on the CNS and the brain as a stimulant in high doses until overdose - as compared, to lets say, Valium, a benzodiazepine, still prescribed often as a sleep aid, which works on the GABA receptors like alcohol does as a sedative-hypnotic in moderate doses and is classified as one with the FDA. Weird, right? Must be the way my brain is wired neurologically.

Edit: Come to think of it, I have no problems falling asleep on wine, no hangover, but with beer, forget it. I'm up the whole night. With a hangover, which is why I only drink a good 22 oz Heineken with dinner. Weekends, well that's a different story. . .

When it's crunchtime on my budget, I switch to Colt 45 from Heinekens. For a malt liquor, it has a very good body to it and its CHEAP.

You are so lazy. How about 37 moves?

At the end, it is all about the quality of each executed move that counts.
