According to Town of Hamburg Police, they received a call about 9 a.m last Friday (Oct. 24) that a dead deer was being dragged in through the front door of the China King restaurant, located in the Big Lots Plaza at 5999 South Park Ave. in Hamburg.
When Officer Joseph Kleinfelder arrived at the scene, he located drag and blood marks from the woods on the south side of China King to the front door.
He then followed them into the restaurant through the dining room and into the kitchen, where the suspect, Tin Chun Cheung, was attempting to remove the head of a female deer on the floor between the sink and the center food prep table of the restaurant.
...
The deer, which had been struck by a vehicle earlier that day had reportedly fled into the woods, was disposed of under the direction of the county’s Health Department.

Why they make such a big deal out of this?
Deer is more healthy than beef. Did they suspect him or serving it to customers?

it's not the deer that's the problem, although that adds novelty to the story. it would've been illegal if it had been cow. u can't cut up newly killed animals like that in a restaurant b/c of health issues.
It's not "deer". It's venison.
And it's tasty, especially with fingerling potatoes and a reduced beef-stock semi glace jus.

uh... probably because of the extremely unhygienic manner in which the whole incident occured. the place is a restaurant, not a damn slaughterhouse.

I was wondering whether Hamburg, NY might be near a site of known CWD infection, but I guess not.

(Chronic Wasting Disease is the deer equivalent of mad cow disease.)

What everybody else said, plus:
1. It was roadkill, and
2. the blood trail leading through the parking lot, through the front door, through the dining area, and into the kitchen.

I actually ate venison for dinner in goulash a few days ago. Yummy.

It sounds like he needs to be introduced to fine art of field dressing.

i'm guessing the story of how the dear bludgeoned itself and crawled under the butcher knife didn't work?

Not unless it bludgeoned itself, left a drag trail of blood from the parking lot through the dining room and into the kitchen, sawed all four of its legs off and placed them in tubs before wriggling itself back under the butcher knife.
I'm sure there's someone that might buy that.

So... why isn't this in the "...whatever" forum? It's hardly worthy to rant about.

i guess the act + the news article about it perpetuates the idea that we are foreigners...and savages. i think this was found to be newsworthy not just because of the whole deer incident, but bc it was chinese ppl doing it.
