Something that people haven't mentioned is the quality of the boxers asian countries are fielding this Olympics. Besides the traditional boxing powers (Cuba, Ukraine, Russia) there was a very good showing early on from the central asian countries as well as Thailand and China.

I'd say Thailand is a traditional boxing country but they have been inconsistent in the Olympics at times. This time they have done great. 2 Boxers have made it into the gold medal rounds.

33 year old flyweight Somjit Jongjohor just won against his cuban opponent 8-2. I saw this match today and it was impressive. Nearly complete domination and no "controversy" or complaining by his opponent here. It's also this guy's last match and he won a gold medal. Nice end of a career.

So just like with a lot of other sports boxing is starting to shift more to the east as well. We all know about Manny Pacquiao from the Phillipines.

Zhou Shiming is the best out of the group. Olympic Bronze medalist in 2004 and gold medalist in the 2007 amateur world championships. He spanked his Irish opponent hard the other day..something like 15-0 it was barely even a match. Just wild flailing by the Irish dude while Zhou schooled him up and down the ring. Then the Irish dude complained about judging bias .

Zhang Xiaoping is pretty good too. He pulled some great upsets in the world championships but not sure if he's consistent enough to walk away with gold.

Zhang Zhilei weakest out of the bunch. Super heavyweight though  If he pulls out a win it'll be a big upset because his opponent is an amateur world championship gold medalist.

We watched Zhang Zhilei's fight with Ruslan Myrsatayev (Kazakhstan) at the office ... Myrsatayev is only like a few inches shorter, but his arms were so damn short and stubby, especially compared to Zhang ... everyone was cracking up the whole time, score was like 12-2 in the end.

China racks up light flyweight boxing gold Zhou Shiming won against the Mongolian dude after he retired after the injury. Pretty much what I thought the outcome would be minus the injury.

Oh damn son, 2nd boxing gold for China. Zhang Xiaoping. Guess he pulled the upset of his career this time.

Zhang Zhilei crashes and burns against his (much superior) Italian opponent. No surprise here either. He was the weakest of the bunch. Damn i'm good maybe I should start sports betting ;).
