Charlize's Vengeance
Theron has Sympathy for revenge remake.

US, March 14, 2008 - Oscar winner Charlize Theron will produce and star in an Americanized remake of Park Chan-wook's 2005 revenge flick Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.

Theron told Moviesblog.MTV.com that she only agreed to do the movie because Chan-wook asked her. "He made an almost perfect film [but] he came to me and said he really wanted us to do this. He wanted to see that story told in an American society," Theron said.

The Aeon Flux and In the Valley of Elah actress added, "If he wasn't so encouraging I don't think I could go through with it. We're intimidated almost beyond belief."

Theron will play the role based on the character of Lee Geum-ja in the Korean original, who was wrongly imprisoned and seeks bloody revenge upon her release.

According to Theron, the film was only in "the very, very early stages of development" and that no director had been hired yet.

that movie rocked. it'll be difficult to do it justice in a remake.

Really? I just thought it was a weird movie.
I saw There Will Be Blood last week and thought it was just depressing. I just don't get these types of movies. Maybe similar to how I don't get abstract art. Give me a Braveheart or a Matrix.

I loved the idea of everybody getting theirs! Personal retribution, a vigilantism (I don't really know if that's a word, btw) that can't be found through the justice system. Cool movie! I can definitely see why Ms. Theron would be intimidated, and I appreciate her trepidation.

I thought sympathy for lady vengeance was the weakest of the trilogy but I understand why it, instead of oldboy and mr. vengeance, are being remade.

Glad to know Theron appreciates Korean movies.

I can see how it would be the weakest, but the ending was neat. And Mr. Vengeance was sooooo slow, though the main character followed Murphy's Law to the letter haha!
