March 6, 2008
Warner Bros. has picked up remake rights to South Korea's surprise hit The Chaser from director Na Hong-jin, reports Variety.
The deal, announced in Seoul on Thursday, is for $1 million plus various incentives based on the remake's box office performance. Kim Su-jin, head of production house Bidangil Pictures, will also receive a co-production credit.
Warner is negotiating to assign a screenwriter and producer to the project.
The midbudget thriller has earned more than $20 million in 20 days of release thanks to strong word of mouth from audiences and critics.
The film is based loosely on the exploits of a real-life serial killer, played by Ha Jung-woo (Never Forever).

Unless I'm missing something, there doesn't seem to be any indication that WB is going to use an AM actor in the lead for the re-make.

He's a decent enough looking chap - but hardly a Kim Sung-Soo.

It appears that they are still working on the screenplay, casting, etc.
While the powers that be may very well cast an AM actor (hopefully an Asian-Am), based on the recent track history of remakes, I wouldn't bet on it.

Yeah I had a feeling so as you said that. I could'nt find any info on the actor to take the lead role either.
But yeah, I'm not betting that the lead role is going to be taken by an AM either now that you mention it, but I imagine that the role played by Ha Jung-Woo would be a role that's critical to the plot.
I'm guessing. I never saw the original.

Thanks. I've never seen it =/.
though the poster character with the cool bike is called Kanada. Akira is this angry mutating monster with telepathic powers.

dunno about that. Akira is blown up, Kaneda is protected by those dwarf-kids when neo-tokyo is nuked, and there's a big flashback to Tetsuo's llfe.
a bit too metaphysical. the soundtrack is good tho

Its been a loooooooooooong time since I seen that flick. I'm not a big fan of anime but I really enjoyed that movie. And appleseed too. I thought that was cool. My fave, Spriggan. That movie was the shit!!
I'll get the dvd and watch it again with a six pack or two of Coors Light when I got the time and figure this complex plot out.
Alot of the metaphysical aspect of it was too surreal for me to understand but maybe I'll understand it this time.
