I learned this lesson the hard way.
a week ago I was stickfighting sans armor. (gloves, helmet only)
and got hit in the nuts.

I was on the ground for about 5 to 10 minutes inventing new strings of obscenties that would make hardened marines blush.

He doesn't. If you get hit in the crotch, he'll just laugh in your face.

When I did martial arts, and the instructor wanted to know... he'd just say "Ok, cup check" and we'd knock on our cup (like knocking on a door)... If you chose not to do it, he'd know... or if you tried to fake it and there was no knocking sound :-)

Ouch! Mate, know the feeling too well. A bud of mine back at high school checked a softball right into my groin. I was on the ground in iommense pain and the sadistic bastard just laughed his head off.

A softball is not that soft.

Learnt my lesson then and there, I've pretty much worn a box since, especially for cricket.
