Apparently, the following site can read your mind:

See if you can work out how they do it.

Hint 1:

Look carefully, not all the numbers have different symbols.

Hint 2:

Suppose your number is in the form of XY, then the number that you "randomly" select is calculated as X * 10 + Y - (X+Y) = 10X + Y - X - Y = 9X

In other words, it doesn't matter which 2 digits you choose to make up your random number, after their calculation, it's always going to be a multiple of 9 ... now have a look at all the symbols corresponding to multiples of 9 and see how they "read" your mind.

It's math. There are a finite number of possible answers. The highest being 99, lowest being 10. In every case the answer will be 9 or a multiple thereof. (example: 10 - (1+0)= 9. 11 - (1+1) = 9. 12 - (1+2) = 9... let's try 20's 20 - (2+0) = 18. 21 - (2+1) = 18. Every answer will be a multiple of 9, the highest being 81. Each multiple of 9 has the same symbol on the chart. Not impressive at all.
