Granted that they have to stop doing things like these, but my initial reaction was to laugh. Again, it is offensive to some.

Although I'm curious why you said it's offensive to "asians". Don't you mean to Chinese?

Maltido, this cartoon is incredibly racist. The fact that I'm Korean and the cartoon supposedly depicts a Chinese person doesn't matter. It's time for Asian Americans of all extractions to rally as one group.

In the past AA groups has been played against each other. When Japanese Americans were rounded up during WWII, Korean and Chinese Americans routinely wore buttons with abhorent phrases like "I'm no Jap" and "I hate Japs even more than you."

Where did this cartoon come from, and what is being done to voice our objections?

*Shrug* Old news. Wasn't offended the first time I saw it, am not offended today. It's just some stupid spinoff of some dumb song. The song came first, the cartoon came later. It seems to me something that an Asian person would come up with, more than something a white person would come up with.

I agree that we all as Asians should unite and rally together... so hopefully we can focus on justice for Anna Guo... and I certainly hope everyone here in the states who is able to will go to the polls & VOTE!

True. Educating seems to be the way that gets them the best. We could always speak out, but then that means we'd have to be fair and get rid of anything ethnic that could be offensive.

Sometimes I wonder if it's okay to laugh at ourselves. There's a Filipino comedian who makes fun of who else...FILIPINOS! He makes fun of the immigrant Filipinos with the thick accent, but it's not meant to "offend". Just like my relatives making fun of me either b/c of what I do, how I look, the way I speak, what I know, etc. I think everyone should be like that.

I think the whole "rallying" thing is a cover up when in reality we all know that Asians have their differences and still prejudices exist among one another. But I do agree with you that Asians (regardless if they're American citizens or not) should come together as one.

We haven't exactly determined that an Asian made the cartoon. Insider humour is *slightly* more okay than outsider humour, although both kinds generally still degrade a race and make them look foolish. But, since it hasn't been proven who it was made for and who the intended/actual audience is, I don't think we can just write it off with the "why can't we just joke on ourselves" defense.

You got a point. However, even if it IS proven to be an Asian, more specifically a Chinese, doesn't mean it's "ok" just b/c you think it's better as an isider joke, one done by one group of people for the purpose of poking fun of themselves. I say either we find it offensive or suck it up. Can't have the "it's okay if it was done by an Asian, but not if it's b a non-Asian" going on if you know what I mean.

Well, my parents own a small fast food restaurant and we sell pretty much most of the orders this cartoon sings. honestly, I think my parents would laugh if they saw it because they don't know the historical practices of racism in cartoons. Granted, when I was younger, I used to make fun of their English accents, and they would laugh about it. But in terms of the media, and my increased awareness of past practices of racism in the media such as the one presented in the first post, I think whether this comic is racist or not is contingent on the intentions of the person or people who created it. I am not easily offended by this comic, but I am not approving it either.
