View Full Version : The Hypocrisy of eBay.com

We're currently challenging eBay.com to comply with their own terms of service, which prohibit manufacture-recalled or racist products (http://news.zdnet.co.uk/story/0,,t269-s2086018,00.html) from being auctioned.
Please help us out! Contact eBay.com at http://www.ebay.com/help/basics/select-support.html and let them know their persistence in allowing "Kung Fool" is in direct violation of their own policies!

that's a link to their listing policy. under the "profanity" section it is specifically written that ebay does not allow racist materials.

how do you complain to them if you don't have an ebay account?

Try this link (http://cgi3.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?SignIn&UsingSSL=0&pUserId=caase&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi3.ebay.com%2Faw-cgi%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FGetGSWebFormShow%26subjectti er1%3DRules%2520and%2520Safety%26subjecttier2%3DLi sting%2520Policies%26query%3DHow%2520do%2520I%2520 report%2520an%2520inappropriate%2520Store%2520list ing%2520to%2520eBay%3F%26rcode%3D0000000%26flag1%3 D9%26flag2%3D1%26flag3%3D5%26userid%3D&pp=pass&pageType=718) instead. Just log in and you can send your protest. I don't think you can send them anything if you don't have an account.

Ebay themselves are not persisting to allow the auctions. All auctions, no matter what they are auctioning off, are allowed until somebody either complains about it, or it gathers enough attention for the big boys at Ebay to come check it out. So there's no, like, automatic way to get an item to not be allowed to be put up for auction. It gets put up first, and THEN the rules are dealt with. So I think it'd be pointless to complain to Ebay.

So how long do you think I'd be able to have my copy of Mein Kampf up for auction?

Probably until somebody sees it and says something about it. If nobody has any complaints about it, you could probably very well sell it. It really doesn't matter about things like that, on Ebay. There have been auctions where people tried to auction off family members that lasted pretty long. It wasn't until the price hit the millions when Ebay took notice.

^-- Bottom Line: Their policies are pretty much on the honor system, when it comes to POSTING the auctions up. Usually things get caught within a few days... But a lot of times things go unnoticed. MOST people are smart enough not to try.

I agree w/ Angel Nympho. That's why there's a TON of bootleg being sold through ebay, even though their policy probably explicitly prohibits it. if you don't believe me, just search for any anime series. :)
But having said that, if someone happens upon it, certainly it helps to complain against them so they feel some pressure to lay the smack down.
