How often do you feel like you could be in danger of a crime? Do you stay inside at night? Or do you carry weapons to defend yourself? Do you use ANY precautionary measures?

No. Being overly cautious takes the life out of living. But it IS important to not be STUPID.

i get a kick out of when guys come into my neighborhood and are more afraid than i am. :)

to answer c.m.'s questions, jefferson park is by the univeristy of southern california (where i go to school), otherwise known as university of south central. girls are advised not to walk around there along at night. i used to carry pepper spray and a tazor gun. now i don't carry anything, but i also don't go out at night as much.

I carry a switchblade. I've been robbed by black kids around my hood before but they didn't get away with my money.

I carry a locking blade that I always have on my person because of work and because I like to chop stuff open in general. I still carry it now because I'm used to it. I have some cool pepper spray in my car just for the heck of it. I suppose that I feel better with both of those but I don't normally think I'm in danger. I have a bunch of guns at home with loaded clips (no kids around and none ever come over). I figure since I had them, I might as well be able to use them for self defense. My bro came face to face with a black man in our enclosed garden's walkway late one night at 12:30AM. He was certainly trying to steal some stuff since there are NO entrances. He hopped a few fences to get in to take a look around. He left peacefully and without incident. My bro did not want to detain him since he did not know if the thief had a weapon or if he was on drugs. Sometime later (probably months), someone had stolen a car radio and other small items from my garage. Probably the same man. I noticed other people scoping out the neighborhood too. These things prompt me to be a bit more careful, even around my own house (in a good neighborhood).

Oh yeah. One thing that really disturbs me is a story I heard from a next door neighbor. She has a son which is SFPD and he got his house broken into while he was away. Some of the things that were stolen were his guns AND his police uniform(s). I find this disturbing because the uniforms can obivously be used to impersonate police and gain entry into peoples' properties. Why else would someone take police uniforms? This happened just last week or the week before that.

I'm with angel. I don't pack but I am cautious like not walking in Central Park when it gets dark etc etc. Just street smarts.

I used to carry a pepper spray until i "donated" it to the airport personnel. I usually never walk alone at night anywhere. Sometimes, I do when I'm going to my car after the sun sets, but my car's usually near me and in a lighted area. I'm going to be PC on ya... I prefer not to say America but the United States. Ok gotta run!!! B)

i'm kinda detached from the states since i live in vancouver but the things i see on americas most wanted, the news, cops and other reality based shows me that most ppl down there are a bunch of screw-ups.

vancouver has its share of them too but it seems that the type of things you see in the states is more mindless, frequent and atrocious.

i'm w/ ren28. i'd stock up on guns too.

America is a continent that has been subdivided into three regions, North, Central and South. America as a whole includes, from top to bottom.. the U.S./ Canada (i don't know which is higher, Alaska? or the Canadian Yukon Territories (that is correct right?) all the way down to the southern tip of Chile. All of those countries in between are "America."

The USA has taken the onus to exclude these other countries by boldly saying that it is "America" rather than what it actually is. Exclusion is a major constituent of racism. The reference to the USA as "America" is just another blatant racist systematic indoctrination of propaganda that exists in the USA today that has been so ingrained into US society, that no longer must it be subtle. It is as if minorities are being blinded because they feel as if they are included, all the while they/we are being separated from "America."

We can delve into deeper issues such as the aforementioned exclusion of "foreigners" which in turn is the same as the exclusion of minorities, yet the status quo remains dominant in that they have blinded those minorities that falsely believe they are included in "America." Simply, Divide and Conquer. Look at what the US has done with the word "Allies" to Arab nations.

That is why it is not right to call the USA, "America," as the sole entity which represents the true and real America.

Canada has some formula that they use so people can easily acquire citizenship if the exceed some point mark, so it's not really hard to get citizenship (even without a job). Haven't looked at the formula in like 4 years or so. The job issue is another matter altogether. Anybody knowing somebody (anyone) needing a cheap programmer feel free to send me a message.

The way I see it, though... is that the 3 countries, Canada, USA, and Mexico are together the Americas: North America (Which includes the United States of America, Mexico and Canada), and South America. But I figure, you can call Canada "Canada," you can call Mexico "Mexico,"and the USA could be shortened to simply "America." *Shrug* And the countries in South America each have like, names, and stuff... so none of them need to be called "America."
And, fair or not, the USA is the one nation in all the Americas and pretty much the world that sets a tone for many others. It's pretty fair to say that, of all the countries of the Americas, the USA is the bigger power. So maybe it's more of a... representative type name? I don't know. *Blahhh*

I don't "fear" for my life, necessarily. Though I do know if the shit hit the fan, it'd be a lot easier for me to die than it would for me to watch my wife or my family die or receive grievous injuries. Maybe that's just misplaced testosterone, you know, going for the glory moment instead of picking up the pieces afterward.

I do own firearms intended for self defense. A loaded revolver is kept in the safe. (It's not a big safe, but if some lunkhead sticks a gun in my face and says, "Open the safe!" I have the nasty surprise trumpcard.)

My wife and I have both attended defense handgunning courses at a school in Nevada called Front Site. I also went on to their tactical shotgunning and submachine gun courses. Civilians can't really own submachine guns in CA, but the class was free. :-)

Sad to say but I do have this fear factor at times. Specially with what has happened since 9/11 and with child abductions on the raise. I worry somethings if my child is going to be able to enjoy a kids life without some nut trying to harm her.

The news is so riddled with stuff that I try not to watch it because I don't want my daughter to be afraid. But then on the same hand I got this kid enrolled in self defense classes.

I can't allow fear to rule my life. I take each day one step at a time and thank God that we made it. :(

i don't let the chance of an attack stop me from going about my business. but chicago is the worse city i've lived at in terms of personal violence.

once, i was walking across the street with the walk guy blinking in front of me. the car that was stopped at the light, hit the gas and ran right into me. bounced off the hood, bounced a few times on the pavement. witnesses didn't stick around and i didn't get the license. police just said they’d take the report but prob nothing could be done about it. hmmmm i wonder if it was race related.

more frequent are those verbal attacks by ignorant people, trying to get me to fight. sometimes i fight, sometimes i dont, depends on my mood that evening.

about guns. i wish i could have my handgun here. chicago and most of its burbs have banned them, so no license. pisses me off, because i thought all americans under the constitution were allowed to have firearms. rifles are a bit clumsy for home defense. plus i feel that a concealed weapon is the best deterrent to crime. if you know everyone is allowed to carry, than would you start shit.

Don't believe everything you see in the news. It's never the real story, it's never the full story, and it's never the truth. The media is ruled by fear. They scare you, because without fear, they wouldn't make any money. Without fear, there would be no demand for information.

I know where you're coming from. There is so much "pure evil" in the world. Just sick people like the nut in the DC area. Or those AL-qiada ( I don't think I spelled it right and I don't really care) jack asses. The world is going to hell in a handbag and I'm not trying to carry it.

Yeah, you're right about the right to bear arms. Somewhere along the way we lost it when people started to use firearms for crime.
