Do you have them? I do a lot of things with my hands, cut grass, do other types of yardwork, play basketball, work on cars............................but I still don't have very manly looking hands. Yeah I know Moises Alou likes to piss on his hands to get them all rough and calloused, but do you have calloused hands? Mine look kinda soft and girly :frown:

Haha..what do you define by girly? You know we gotta use that moisterizuer nowadays in order to maintain our metrosexuality. Usually if you do a lot of manual labor or sport playing, you develop callouses...not that it matters, per se.

It does matter! I don't want to be holding some girls' hand and then have her be like "damn your hands are softer than mine." It's happened before :frown:
I've stopped using lotion, but then my knuckles got ashy. I don't know if that looks manly or just plain negligent.
lemme get this straight...you want to purposely fuck up your hands?
i take pride in how good my hands look.

I have callouses from lifting, which means I don't have pretty metrosexual hands. But the fact that I lift weights at all puts me in danger of being a metrosexual.

Some women like rough hands. Some women don't.
I used to work part time with this lady that liked dudes whose finger nails that were short and clean but not groomed with fingernail clippers.

I have calloused hands from weight lifting. Shaking hands with me is probably like doing so using sandpaper.

So weight lifting builds calloused hands? Yeah I think I'll go do that.

Mine are semi-calloused. But I try to maintain them since I happen to like them. Thing is this pinky on my right hand got jacked up. :frown:

Are you guys lifting without gloves? That'd be the only reason for getting callouses. When I just started to work out I just did so bare handed, but as I got into it more I started to use gloves.
You can just go build a 20X20 shed by hand, you're sure to get calloused hands (and blisters). Or just play on the monkey bars every day.

i brought it up in the s&h thread a while back cuz my hands had those things at the finger joints sorta like dead skin (i guess callouses) but anyway oddly enough not as much these past few weeks i havent been using gloves and the callouses aint so bad, maybe cuz i got used to it?

I don't really see the point of wearing gloves while lifting, because building tougher hands is just an added benefit of lifting. Yesterday I wanted to do some pullups but I didn't want to go to the gym, so I used a horizontal branch on a tree growing outside my room. If I did that everyday, I'd have some pretty good callouses.

Didn't you read my first post? I already do all that stuff and for some reason, my hands still look kinda soft-ish.
And I do all that stuff every week.

That might just be your natural biological disposition. I'm sure most girls appreciate it, don't even worry about it.

When I just started to work out I just did so bare handed, but as I got into it more I started to use gloves.Lately without. But I finally found my gloves so I plan on using those when I'm done with my move. Just need to move 300lbs or so worth of weights to the new place.

speaking of pullups, if your not quite adept at it yet, what can u do to "prepare" yourself? i havent tried but i doubt if i could cuz i just started being able to barely do some dips

Some fancy-schmancy gyms have these pullup machines where you can rest your knees on this little weighted platform that gives you a bit of upward force, but I don't like them. A better solution is to do pulldowns on a universal. Use the wide bar, and do pulldowns using the same motion as you would doing a pullup. Some people bring the bar down behind their necks, but I hear that that tends to cause injuries, so just bring it down in front of you as you would for a pullup.
If you just want to do regular pullups, even if you can only do a couple of pullups, you can build up strength that way. Just do however many you can do, rest a short while, and repeat for 3 or 4 sets.

^ Well my hands for some reason look a little more worn out today, plus there's a couple of pieces of dead skin on my fingers and palms that I hadn't noticed before, so I guess that makes them look more "manly".

Dry out your hands. Purposely put them in the dirt, or drench them in motor fluid, or what-not. Unhealthy shit will kill your skin, leaving them in the most screwed up skin on the planet.
I perfer my hands to be nice and clean.

Are you sure a girl wants to feel jagged dead skin scratching her skin when you're caressing her ass or boobs?

you should be more worried about the shape of your hand rather than the texture of it.
besides, girls hate it when they see a guy's hand that's all jacked up, ashy and tore up. I used to always get that bullshit after doing an engine install, suspension work, electrical, blah blah blah....
I'm sure the girl is more concerned about your grip than the softness of your skin. Do you have girl looking hands or do you have soft skin on your hands??

I know what you mean....people think my hands are the perfect piano hands, sheesh...I started lifting weights like about 2 years now, it still look thesame...the manly rough spots stays on temporarily and it dissappears...I dont like it since I find it girly but it seems that girls like it but it doesn't matter since I dont like it...

Mr. Lum, I tried guitar a couple of times. That didn't work, though...............

Yah know, even if you can achieve the "calloused hands" look, they can still look soft around the callouses.

I have calloused hands from working on cars too much. Gets kinda nasty with all the dirt and grime from the cars getting under the nails and stuff.

I've been bodybuilding for several years and my hands get heavily calloused from free weights. There's an easy way to deal with this problem so that you maintain the natural protection, yet still don't scare away your girlfriend.
Every week put aside an hour. Buy a pumice stone and sandpaper with various grits from rough to fine. After you take a shower, the skin on your hands should have softened due to the water uptake. Use the pumice stone to wear away the dead skin and callouses...use finer and finer sandpaper as you make progress, eventually leaving your hands smooth. Now make a habit of using hand moisturizer to soften them up every day to prevent the skin from drying out.

You don't need / have to wear gloves for that?
Doesn't the oils absorb into the skin over time?

I try to wear latex gloves for stuff that gets really dirty, but otherwise, when I get some grime that I know is pretty bad, such as motor oil and gear oil, I try to clean up asap. It's not too bad, just the dirt and grime that gets trapped under electrical tape in the engine bay's a bitch to get off since it's sticky and has shit in it. yuck. Sucks though since the skin gets dried out and gets very tight after a while and gets pretty irritating.

HAHAHAHAHAHA...that is just plain nasty...listen, better a girl thinks you got nice soft hands (and believe me we do like that...no woman wants to feel like shes cheese being grated when you try to 'caress' her) than you are king of the ashy mae parade!!
