"Tyrus Wong: A Retrospective" is currently running at the Chinese
American Museum. The exhibit features fine and commercial art work,
kites and toys made by Tyrus Wong, a 93-year old Chinese American
pioneer in the arts. Mr. Wong worked as a lead artist on the Disney
animated classic, Bambi, having designed all the atmospheric
background scenes in the film during his tenure at Disney Studios.
He also worked on such notable films as The Wild Bunch and Harper
while working at Warner Brothers Studios. The exhibit also features
Mr. Wong's Christmas greeting card designs, which sold over a
million copies each. Over the past two decades of Mr. Wong's
retirement from his commercial art career, he has been flying
complex Chinese-style kites at Santa Monica Beach, which he has
designed and built himself.
The exhibit will close on October 17, 2004

YW Field trip?

I have to be in Long Beach in the early evening, though, for an APEX event. Alberta Lee, Wen Ho Lee's daughter, will be our guest speaker.

Maybe we can make it an all-day YW thing?

re: Tyrus Wong exhibit - oh, i saw that last xmas...

re: Alberta Lee - she must be campaigning for something (clearing her Dad's name?)... I once saw her speak... She seemed less savvy than I expected. Maybe she's changed since then.

not campaigning. i'm one of the co-chairs of the Legal SIG for APEX, and we just thought it'd be nice to have her come speak for us - to educate the rest of the group why non-attorneys might and should be interested in legal issues. she's doing us a favor. blup.
