InKAS announces Summer School 2004, a two-week program offered to overseas Korean adoptees to help them experience and learn about Korean culture. The program runs from July 19th (Mon) through Aug 2nd (Mon), 2004.

InKAS assists adoptees in finding their original families and provides an opportunity for adoptees to experience and understand Korean culture.

Our summer program offers interactive courses and direct exposure to different aspects of Korean culture, such as Korean cuisine, Korean hanbok (traditional costume), ways of living and language.

InKAS Summer School begins with a course in Korean culture, which is then followed by a tour. The course in Korean culture is composed of six classes: hands-on programs on Korean Cooking, Korean Hanbok Tailoring, Learning Korean Decorum and Korean Mask Dance, and two lectures, one on Korean language and one on Korean history.

This year, the Summer School will travel to Jeolla province, a southern region that is known for its natural beauty. It is the place where the flowers first bloom in spring, where the cool ocean islands welcome you in summer, and where, in autumn, colourful leaves dye the whole world in red and crimson.

◆ Classes

1. Korean Cooking : One-on-one instruction at a designated cooking institute that
offers a distinct cooking curriculum for learning about both traditional and modern Korean cuisines.

2. Korean Hanbok Tailoring: Hands-on instruction in traditional embroidery for Korean hanbok.

3. Korean Decorum: Wearing their self-styled Korean hanbok, students learn about the behavior, attire, and spirituality involved in the etiquette of traditional and modern Korea.

4. Korean Mask Dance

5. Korean: ① Korean language for beginners, starting with Korean Alphabet.

② Intermediate level

6. Korean history: Understanding Korea via visual media.

◆ Tour
Since historical times, Jeolla Province has been famous for its culinary and maritime riches, as well as its warm Korean folk culture. The Inkas Summer School offers a chance for participants to explore the BaekJe Cultural areas, participate in Korean pottery making and appreciate the beauty and historical depth of traditional Korean life. We will visit a folk village, a former walled fortress town dating from the Chosun period, where buildings have been restored and preserved and 280 families still live.
