Hi, Cantonese Person from Canada. I'm Shanghainese Person from ...Shanghai? ...and America. If i were Beijingnese, we could have a real north vs south thing (oh wait thast complicated...Beijing is north of Guangdong, but Canada is north of The States) goin' on, but then again, southerners think of us Shanghai ppl as northerners even though we're not...we're cosmopolitan.. 8)

Good point! :)

I'm actually not "cantonese".. I'm Shanghainese.. like you. :) .. I just speak cantonese at home, that's all.. and my knowledge of mandarin is slightly limited. :)

I was actually quite shocked when I found out that Shanghai was "southern" part of China..

shock! a shanghainese who speaks cantonese at home? i mean our culture is DYING and you're speaking probably the most popular Chinese language besides Mandarin...tsk tsk

nah j/k. so i guess you're a halfer or something. ;)

yeah, my Cantonese friends would always tell me that I'm a northerner but my parents say we're southerners, although China's north/south border is pretty up north...

yah i know someone's whose dad is cantonese, mom is shanghainese. he doesnt really speak shanghai hu (i dunno any pinyin for shanghainese so i'm just trying to approximate), but his mom speaks it to me once in a while, like the RARE occasions i'm in his home.

That's pretty neat.. I know when I go to my friend's houses their parents talk to me in cantonese.. it's pretty interesting.. :)

you could teach me shanghainese.. hahaha..
