next week, i'll be working on a booklet project about......yes, China! i am south asian, and i haven't met many east asians so i have little idea about chinese traditions, culture, geographical features etc. i was hoping people could help me out on the cultural/historical/traditional bit of China. i would be very grateful if you could post about general things you find interesting about China's history or culture.

then i would recommend this (http://www.chinavoc.com/history/index.asp) for Chinese history. since you want to include everything, you can't really afford to go into much details about any particular period or event. i mean, we're talking about 4 or 5 thousand years here.

Though the African connection brings me out on a limb, ready to claim a fusion of Shang and Xi. This then leads to the possibility that global trade routes were established from 1300 years ago.
"The Olmec people called themselves Xi (pronounced Shi).

The Olmec Writing is Unique. The Signs are similar to the writing used by the Vai people of West Africa. The Olmecs spoke and aspect of the Manding (Malinke-Bambara) language spoken in West Africa."
The clincher lies in Mohenjo-daro in the Indus river valley.

this is based on circumstantial evidence at best. for an all-encompassing project like the one robotic is doing, i personally think it's best to stick with what is widely accepted by most academics.

Tang Dynasty all the way!
China is isolated, so thats why its culture lasted 4,000 years, Himalayas to the southwest, Desert to Northwest and Subartic temperatures to the North, disease ridden thick jungles to the South....
Two Greatest Dynasties are Han Dynasty, and Tang Dynasty. Ching, Ming both were horrible, bowed down to foreign rule like Russia, French, British, Portugese, Japan, and Germany.
People refer to themselves as Han people, or Tang people, In Cantonese, We call ourselves (Tong Yun) to refer to the Tang Era as the Glory (GOLDEN AGE PERIOD of CHINA) like the Nazis refered to the Aryans as the Master Race, Former Glory of the Germanic people.
I am a Tong Yun, most people are Han Yun.
Kublai Khan (Grandson of Genghis khan) conquered China, and started the Yuan Dynasty, and it was the Only time in Chinese history that it has been conquered by foreign nation.
The Mongolian empire was the largest Land empire in the world, stretching from Korea to Ukraine, and down to Vietnam, India, Pakistan, and into the Middle East, Iran, Syria. They penetrated deep into Russia.
I'll post more later on.

What about the Turko-Mongolic people prior to the historic Yuan dynasty that the Yellow Emperor first built the Wall of China as a watchtower, a sort of line drawn in the sand? Huns and Turks arose out of their ranks to invade Central Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Vietnam was never part of the Yuan dynasty. Only Han, Tang (inherited from Han), and 20 years of Ming dynasty controlled Vietnam.
