I just love the last leg of a race:)
After an atrocious February, I'd pretty much written-off my work league fantasy bball team. They were a good bunch, but not good enough, having climbed as high as 2nd place, but for the past several weeks, mired at 4th. It was a crew of above average talent and caliber, put overworked and extended far too much (leading the league at 651 games) to play much of a factor this month.
And then, some signs of life. For some time I'd been trying to trade my marquee power forward, Elton Brand, for a center of equal value, since I'm over 11 games at the PF spot and under one at C -- this, while chasing the league leader in boards, by less than 100. My original offer was a combo deal of Elton Brand and Baron Davis (why not! got nothin' left to lose!) for Kobe and Ben Wallace...he didn't want to give up Kobe and instead offered Chauncey and Wallace for Baron...and Shareef. :)
Cha-ching! Shareef and Baron for Chauncey and B. Wallace.
So I lose some from Baron v. Chauncey, but as LethalWeapon aptly put it, Wallace over Shareef was too much.
A day later, still beaming from that trade, a little bird whispers in my ear that Ron Artest might be playing...much, much ahead of schedule, as he was slated to miss about 4 - 6 weeks. Lo and behold, another owner dropped him, thinking he'd only be wasting a slot by keeping him.
Cha-Ching! Dropped Samuel Dalembert, added Ron Artest.
That night, I'd be watching James Posey on our waivers. I've never seen the guy play in my life, but before the All-Star break he was averaging 11.7 and 4.5 boards. After, about 19 ppg and 7.3 boards.
Cha-Ching! Dropped Brent Barry, added James Posey.
Then, finally, today I made one last stab to give my team a chance: get a real scoring threat to close out the year.
Cha-Ching! Traded Carmelo Anthony and Jeff McInnis for Allen Iverson.
*flexes*
Will it be enough? Probably not. But ya gotta love fantasy baby:)
