well..
not people. this one guy I know sucks.

so i'm still in the mist of job searching. it's oh so fun :-D!!!

I wrote to a guy that graduated a year before me regarding job openings at the company he works for. It's been over a week and a half more like two weeks. I didn't get any email back..nothing. Not even, no you suck we don't want to hire you...go away.

I thought an alumus would at least be personalable, but no...

Did I mention he has that job now because I posted the job opening to my programs Listserve when I was interning at the company two summers ago?

if the whole karma thing is true.. why isn't my good being returned with at least a courtsey? I thought I knew him well enough..but I guess not.

eh, end rant.

Get his number from the company and call his lazy ass!

You don't have to say anything, like, "look you thankless bastard...".

But you can ask how the job you showed him is doing, etc.

And don't rely on one guy, then find out he falls thru and go to the next option. Go to multiple people first, and make sure you write them a thank you card whenever you have an interview or even just an "informational" meeting. That is a trick my aunt taught me, who is in marketing. She got a job in less than a week....after being out of it for a long time. She had multiple offer contracts written up, so other companies could actually start bidding for her--which is something you can't do if you only go for one company at a time.

Chin up, and in the meanwhile, do something productive with your life.

Thanks for your support.. unfortunatly for me, my field is tiny. In NYC area, there have been only 2 job openings that I know of in the past 8, 9 months. Of course, I've been applying all over the country, but still not a lot... and I would hope he remembers me, he graduated a year before me, had classes with me, AND I worked with him for three weeks. Beginning to think the company hates me.. last time I visited them..(to tell them I was going to come back to work with them after graduation..) the company president was kinda mean to me...

eee.. Stay in college kids, I should have stayed till this Feb like I had planned.

This is why I don't help anyone. I don't get help so I don't give it.

What industry are you in?

While it's very possible the guy could be brushing you off, it's also very possible the guy is just incredibly busy. In my job I can get like 30 emails in a day, some of my friends get over a 100 emails a day. It's real easy for personal emails to get lost in an abyss.

Also, if the dude only graduated one year before you, wouldn't that make him a relatively junior person at that company? If you interned there before, is there anyone else still around like your former boss, or the person who wrote you your reference letter? That would be the first person I would contact for a job. If anything whoever wrote you your reference letter may be able to point you towards someone else in the industry if the company truly just isn't hiring.

Either way if the guy is a friend of yours I think it would be ok to shoot him another reminder email. Anyways listen to the crackwh0re, keep your chin up! I'm sure unless the guy secretly hates you with a passion or something there's some sort of explanation, and if you haven't contacted others in the company I'd definitely do that as well.

I'm in Medical Illustration...
actually it's a pattern w/ that company to never write back. My production manager has yet written a single email back to me... he always passes it off to someone else to respond back to me. They CAN take two seconds out to write me..come on, the whole company doesn't really work Friday afternoons.. We all used to chill the last two hours drinking at work. He's not that junior in the company, b/c it's relatively small..well.was smaller when he started. He's the "chief" Medical Ilustrator... Plus, the job posting had HIS email on it. Oh well.. I guess this is the last straw, I've had it with them (the company). I think I was more angry that Alum would ignore another alum from the same school.
