got this offa comingsoon.net

Miramax Films has attached screenwriter David Magee to adapt author Laurence Yep's magical adventure trilogy The Tiger's Apprentice. Magee previously wrote the screenplay for Miramax's J.M. Barrie's Neverland.

Yep's trilogy centers around a Chinese-American boy in San Francisco forced to hone his skills in ancient Chinese magic. When the grandmother who raised him is overtaken by enemies, the boy becomes guardian of a phoenix egg that controls the fate of good and evil and allies himself with a tiger capable of assuming human form.

Children's film specialist Jane Startz will produce the project, marking her third collaboration with Miramax after The Mighty and upcoming pic Ella Enchanted. Startz also produced Tuck Everlasting for Disney. The producer is working with Magee on another project in development, The Lord of the Nutcracker Men.

naw dude, its the parents or a guardian thats gotta be asian

trick is, that the kid has to learn his "asianness" that he so rejected or whatever

so im thinking white boy with white dad and a subtly asian wife
