Check it out (http://www.bol.ucla.edu/%7Eemm/). Someone analyzed us. haha, the forums were part of a survey. oh god... i really should behave better.

out of 20 people polled, most preferred AsianAvenue, because it has the credibility – there are three million users on the network and consequently its possible to find anything on the website. Yellowworld.org was used for more serious discussion about world events and the news. Once people became more familiar with the forums and users they migrated to other forums but continued using the site for news and political subjects most frequently.

So what does that mean? We need to party more?

Not to tear apart what was obviously done as homework for an intro-level course, but, well, they didn't analyze us very well ... they misquoted the slogan as "to cultivate an Asian American consciousness," presumes our whole orientation is towards activism, and assert without evidence "The issues people face as asian-americans are all the same regardless of location or age."

Also, maybe it's a matter of opinion, but the author claims, again with no evidence, "Yellowworld.org does not have as many links to physically grounded communities, but has more links to other virtual communities ... [b]ecause of this it may be harder [in comparison to AA] for people to meet in person and strengthen bonds formed online through face-to-face communication" ... and "Yellowworld.org also has links to jobs, and promotes events in areas. However, their events are of a different nature, usually rallies or groups advocating to address some social/political issue." I'd feel a lot more comfortable meeting people off a smaller website like YW (in fact, the only online forum where I've actually met any participants in real life) than off AA or something, and if I recall correctly there have been several big meetups as well as proposals for other random social events like camping trips or karaoke nights.

i thought we were the cool site. :closedeye

and really, i think it's so hard to get most of y'all to talk about serious stuff. that person must not have spent too much time here. or maybe he/she didn't have access to our s & h forum.

i bet members of asian avenue don't know about helicopter man. :D

Yah yah, I agree I'm reluctant to talk seriously most of the time. Being employed where everything is always serious does that to me.

Does that not happen for anybody else?

I stopped talking seriously here awhile ago. I think I must have lost brain cells in the summer.

Is this good or bad? Or even true?
...but overall the general feeling is that yellowworld.org is a more liberal site dealing with societal topics...

:( I'm outside the general demographic --
The two sites are also of specific interest to students in universities and high schools and beyond, because most of the people that are logged onto the network are of ages 15-35.

I know. I felt guilty after finding this. But I got over it rather quickly.

Seriously, I do have some guilt over getting too silly and gross. What do you think we (YW members) could do to change this a bit? Some of the serious issues we've had are very geographical in nature. In other words, I don't live in Cali. Then there is the other issue where I can't really give an opinion as an Asian, so I'm out of that one too but I'm an exception to most members here. I'm interested in how we could focus a bit more. We have had quite a bit of public attention.

i think we're fine. actually, when i read your first sentence - i thought you meant that you felt guilty for not sharing with the members of Asian Avenue the wonders of helicopter man. sorry if i keep bringing it up - i think it's just b/c i first learned thru that thread how kinky some of you all are. and that was just the beginning.

re: activism - there's not much to do right now, so i can understand why our discussions would be more laid back, less heated. and i feel secure knowing that the mods and most of the members will step up if there is a project that we decide to take.

for those of you who don't know...
1) anna's appeal is still pending - there's not much we can do except maybe write her.

2) remove coble is still on. check the get involved forum.

also, if any of you ever come across something that you feel we absolutely need to do something about, don't hesitate to bring it up in the rant room.
