It sucks to be a minority in a minority right?

I mean, you play rpgs, CCGs, or wargames, and you're the only person of color there... And then you have some white boy run up and tell you you're not roleplaying your kung fu guy right, because "That's not how asian people acted back then!"...

I've had the fortune of running some games with all people of color, and its amazing the way the race dynamics change the mood. I've always wanted a network of gamers of color, so we could form our own groups if we didn't want to deal with "ninja Todd" telling us about our culture through his Hollywood education.

Any gamers out there feelin' me? Anyone down for this?

Yeah, D&D, Magic, all the nerdy games. :P

The solution to your problem is to quit hanging around with game nerds. Not all gamers are loner assholes or annoying 13-year-olds, but so many of them are that I don't really think you can complain when they act like morons.

Hi Yuhei

Actually I mostly game with theatre people and hiphop heads. Not really game nerds. And I do this because, like you said, a lot of people act like assholes. But that really doesn't address my question, does it?

Clarifying point: I don't play with that sort of person anymore. I haven't for YEARS. But, I have had that experience before. The point isn't about assholes like that.

The point is we have stuff like ethnic basketball leagues, school clubs, etc. Would anyone be interested in forming a similar organization, or group of organizations based on gaming?

The only RPG I really ever got into was Marvel Super Heroes. As it was not very popular, I am sure none of you have played it.

I'm used to be a wargamer when I was sixteen or so. I've fought at Waterloo, Fredericksburg, Borodino, Saratoga, Eckmuhl and countless other battles and all my opponents were sad thirty-somethings who I suspect may still be wargaming in their elderly parent's basements.

Nowadays I just hop online and rack up the frags on UT2003 and Enemy Territory.

While I sympathize, I also think it's stupid. I'm a fringe gamer, I like the CRPGs and I've even played a little table top and would actually play a bit more but I can't stand the average gamer. Despite some minority involvement, it's primarily a white male hobby so how is it my interest or place to tell them to stop fantasizing about Oriental Adventures.

But to answer your question directly bankuei, yeah I feel you on this. I was invited to my husband's gaming group but he knows that I won't come within a mile of the anime-obsessed Japanophiles there.

As long as we're listing games, I like Warhammer table top but all I really do is play CRPGS like BG I/II, TOSC, TOB, IWD I/II, Diablo I/II, Torment, NWN, SoU and so on. I think next month my hubby's DnD group goes to Kara-Tur. Can't wait to hear his stories.

sun,

I haven't played it yet,so I don't know. All I can say it's a good setting.Unfortunately since the world book just came out the group I was in hadn't tried it out yet.I'm putting together a new group, unfortunately my brother won't play unless it's Forgotten Realms,Warhammer , Eberron or RIFTs.Since we'd be gaming at his place he has veto power even if I'm the GM.I need to find another group, heh.

Now to the topic of ethnic based groups.I'm all for it if it's something you want to do.Yet,since I'm white,if I tried that I'd be labeled a "RACIST".Since ,I'm not a "hollywood raised ignorant" white boy or a "anime-addicted-japanophile" Gaijin, I'm not going to be prone to saying stupid "ethnic based" crap.Oh sure I'm a geek so I'll joke & say stupid shit like any other gamer geek whatever their race/ethnic background is.

Instead of creating a "ethnic(if you were white= "racist) based" group, either don't associate with ignorant white trash or educate them.Personally,I'd like a multi-ethnic group as not only it would be fun game with people who "may" have a different outlook than I would.Plus ,it'd give US a chance to better know eachother & break down the distructive barriers that cause racism.L8r.
