Why do people smile in pictures?
I mean really, 99.999999999999999999999% of people look uglier when they smile. WHY do people smile for pictures? To capture their ugliness? Or if they're actually good looking, to become ugly?
I mean if you wanted to look ugly, you can just make an appointment with me and my friend, Mr. Bat. I'll try to fit you into my schedule of nose jobs.
On a side note, why do ugly people always act like they're hot? I mean you KNOW you're ugly. At least acknowledge it so you're not a poser.
Just STFU! Do I really need beauty and fashion advice from someone who in medieval times would have been long stoned at and laughed by the village children?

I think people smile because they want those who view the pictures to think that their lives are actually going well rather than the wretched empty hole of despair it is in reality.
Ugly people don't give out fashion and beauty advice. I haven't met any ugly people who gave our tips of any sort.

Hey I acknowledge the fact that I'm ugly! I don't go around dispensing bad advice.
Although from your avatar, you clearly agree with me since you're not smiling either. Therefore you know that smiling makes you uglier.

Yes. To become ugly.
But I disagree. People look very cute when they smile in person. It doesn't always translate in pictures well though.

Most people look best when they smile, if they are flashing a genuine smile.
I tend not to smile during pictures because I hate to fake smiles and I disliked posed photos. Nonetheless, people tend to only like to take posed pictures of me while trying to get me to fake a smile.
Go figure!

I know! That crossed my mind as well!
If pictures have anything to say, it's this: I was here, I existed. I was young and happy and someone cared enough about me to take my picture.

No, Uncle Tat's not serious. In fact, you shouldn't take anything he says seriously. He's very close to being institutionalised.

I think a smile is like trying to capture a 'happy' moment in your life. As for me, 1/2 of the time I smile, 1/2 of the time I don't. Oh, and people that try to look "hard" in their pics are just plain ridiculous.

Why do people smile??? a very good point because pictures are meant to capture a moment. I like to take pictures of friends when they are laffing or when they have natural facial epxressions... not when they are putting on a wensleydale cheesy grin.
So everyone stop smiling :D no - just kidding.... smile..... just a little

My someone is bitter today hmmm?
Contrary to your opinion, I actually prefer it when people smile. I'm smiling for example in mine:P I'm photogenic so sue me.
Maybe because of their confidence??? A little of it doesn't hurt. And you don't have to be ugly to have beauty or fashion advice by the way.

Yeah even I don't like posed pictures that people take but when they take posed pictures and not smiling but trying to look like a model or something now that annoys me than if they're actually smiling and posing.

When I was in Korea they would never smile in their pictures... that is of course unless I flashed them, then they couldn't stop smiling, and laughing, and pointing.

I know the feeling, imagine never being able to live down dropping your pants in front of an intermediate drawing class who happened to be sketching life on campus of the high school. There used to be art work the students had, and more than a few of them had an illustration of a guy with his pants around his ankles, and saluting the flag. I'd deny the fact it was me, if there wasn't a school paper reporter snapping pics at the time. -sigh-

I can't fake a smile to save my life. The closest I can do is grit my teeth in obvious anger. I hate trying to appear happy when I'm really not, I used to do it all the time- whenever someone smiled at me, I'd smile back just to be polite, but half the time it'd be fake. Nope. Now, if someone smiles at me, and I smile back, I do it because I feel happy to see that person- and am confident that I'm not faking anything. If I don't feel like smiling, I won't. I did take one school picture where I faked a smile so hard and y'all that is the *ugliest* picture I've ever taken in my life. Never again. Even my mom was like "oh no" when she got the picture back, she was like "why did you fake a smile?"

Same here, that's why I HATE getting my picture taken and why I don't have any pictures of me. The few I have look like total crap or I got that deadly serious mug shot look. Aside from a work related and driver's license picture, I haven't had my picture taken in 5 years.

Yeah, me too. Whenever I smiled for a picture, I end up looking like I have some really bad gas. Of course, when people say "smile" while taking a picture, I always get mildly annoyed and end up looking like I'm mad at the world like GRRR I hate you!style. These are the reasons why I have so few photos...
