Yesterday, got to meet Wing Lam (founder of Wahoo's Fish Tacos) and Irene Kinoshita (CEO of Ascolta). Wing Lam was very funny and was extremely open in talking about his background and experiences growing up and in opening his successful chain of restaurants. At first when you see him, you think something is odd because you see this adult Asian male wearing a Hawaiian-ish shirt with shorts and Etnies sandals. He has long-hair and a long beard. Irene Kinoshita was also a very nice person to talk to. She had a very inspirational story, especially for Asian females because she's the head of her own company and recently received an award.
Today, got a tour of Lee's Sandwiches (Westminster/Bolsa) and met the regional manager. Also, met the co-founder of TouchNology, the company that designs/produces all the equipment used in the store (security devices, cash register, those flat screens that say your order is ready etc). Both very nice people. They had no problem answering questions to all the people I went with. President of TouchNology is young, only 27. I think the best part was when I got to have a little conversation with him. What I admire most about him was his goals of his success.
He is very very proud of being a part of the Vietnamese community in "Little Saigon". He strongly believes in giving back to the community and not just forgetting about them like some successful people do. Instead of move out to some other place because he's "made it", he's still living in the area and wants to help the businesses in the area. Got to play around with some equipment in his office.
Wow! All of this as an intern? This is too cool.
:)
