I'm being asked to quantify and report on my time at work in about umpteen different ways. Metrics. Shmetrics.

Anybody else asked to do this? Tired of it? :frown:

Yes. It was part of the billing process and if I neglected to do so, I didn't get paid or wouldn't get the amount I'm entitled to. Therefore, one can never get sick of the process if one is in the business of consulting.

On the other hand, I record everything I do during the day in an MS Word template anyway. Odd habit, to be sure, but it does provide a good way to see how much I've accomplished in the span of 24 hours.

We do Timekeeping here and we bill it down to the minutes. It annoying as hell and we can't slack. But one good thing about his firm. Even you do something for a minute. You bill out at least 7 mins. So at the end of the day. You have a good half hour to 45 mins of free time. That is if you do that is.

I used to bill in increments of five minutes per tick. Seven minutes? It's so odd a number.

Six minutes makes for better reporting.

This is the kind of stuff that makes me glad I'm headed for a freelance career (illustration, if you're curious).

Of course, most of the rest of the time I'm cowering in fear at the thought of no health, no dental, no promise of promotion

Timekeeping for billable hours is crap. Hate doing it.

Too bad its part of the job...and you can't bill for the time you take to calculate the damn hours.

you're telling me. I am in the same boat. I have so many cases. I can't save it at end of week to do it . I have to do it at end of day. YOu know how hard it is to keep every single minute in check?
