I would like to appolgize to anyone that I have offended with the imperial war flag of japan. I used it as a icon in response to another member on this forum verbally attacking my country. As I said I am quite sorry to those that I possibly offended with the flag.

It would only be possibly offensive to those who recognized it for what it was

Uh, it might appear slightly more sincere if your signature doesn't say "orokana amerikajin" ... just a suggestion

I messaged Ogumo about his avatar. I did not receive any complaints about it from other members, but I felt it wise to avoid any future conflict over it, especially since I suspected Ogumo didn't really have strong feelings about the Imperial flag and was only using it to provoke another member.

You probably didn't receive any complaints from people because the vast majority of the people here had no idea what it stood for in the first place. I only recognized it because it was on the cover of one of my old textbooks in my Modern Japanese History class.
And to go off on a tangent, do you think that feeling strongly and truly having solid or intense feelings and support for something that may be deemed offensive by many others (like, say, if someone were to put up the nazi symbol as his/her avatar) makes it any better or acceptable than putting up a symbol for the sake of provoking or trolling? In a way, it IS more acceptable and justified, although I doubt that a nazi symbol, regardless of how the person truly felt, would be allowed by the mods on most forums (much less here on YW). All this aside, regardless of how funny or inappropriate this may sound, I have always had more respect for racists who feel passionate about their cause or beliefs rather than people who just spout racist rhetoric in order to piss people off or relieve themselves of their own insecurities.

On a side note, it is interesting however, to see that the nazi symbol and all the pain, destruction, and hate it represents (often mistaken for a buddhist symbol as far as I know) is pretty much universally recognized, whereas the imperial Japanese flag and symbol is recognized by a lot less people. In the end, I guess, you will always have people comparing their plight to the plight of the Jews and the Holocaust. It's not just the Chinese or Koreans complaining about the Japanese. My Armenian friend is forever telling me that what the Jews went through was nothing compared to the suffering and genocide that his people endured at the hands of the Turkish Azeris. After doing a bit of research, I am inclined to side with him. But the question is, how does this make any progress or do any good.

I think the flag with sun rays is still used by the Japanese self defense force (navy).
It was the flag of the combined fleet though.

I don't think it would be 'better' or 'truer' if he had strong feelings in favor of that flag. The fact that he didn't meant I could just ask him to take it down; if he felt strongly about it I would have just written him off as a dick and bugged SWK to ban him.

Yuhei I thought some people were complaining or something. That was the purpos of this thread. Even so I still appologize because it was ridiculous.

I agree the older one was much more pretty but there are negative things associated with it. Like I said Im not here to offend anyone.

The Imperial Flag raised my eyebrow, but it wasn't that big of a deal anyway.
