This is one of the most profound pieces of literature in modern Chinese literature, written by Lu Xun in 1918, during revolutionary times in China. It is nothing short of a criticism of the Chinese character and China itself, personified by the story of the character known only as Ah Q. Ah Q is a despicable character that displays the worst of the Chinese character, and his adventures met with one misfortune after another, which actually leaves the reader pitying him. Lu Xun was very nationalistic, but also very pessimistic about the state that China was in at the time. Through Ah Q's story, Lu Xun had hoped to spur Chinese people to see their own weaknesses and change themselves, and the nation.

not really. Lu Xun had nothing to do with religion.
