We talk a lot about how we find Asian culture-fetishers annoying and we don't want to be around them, how do gay men feel about 'fag hags' or straight women who like to hang out almost exclusively with gay men?

Here's my slant, I think I'd feel a little weird about fag hags if I were a gay man, just like I feel uncomfortable about weird men who want to get to know my 'culture.' But I'm being very hypothetical there. The reason I ask is most people who say they 'want to take to know your culture' aren't getting to know you really for you. Some women I know that could be considered fag hags are women who have trouble developing relationships themselves and sometimes I think they may be just hanging out with gay men because it feels safe. How would you feel about that if you were the guy?

"fag hags" are my favorite people. They know that I am harmless and have good fashion sense. But most of all, they don't prejudge me. They take me as is. :) That's all I need.

At times I wonder about Fag Hags. A friend of mine recently told me that she wants a "gay" best friend. I asked her why, and she said it'd be fun, and neat to be around a gay buddy all the time. I again inquired why, and she didn't have any real justification to it, aside from the fact that it'd probably amuse her.

Why oh why do people find other people's identities AMUSING?

It's not like I hang around my non-asian friends because I find that their culture amusing to my taste. It's about the person, rather than the "interesting" things about them.

So I often wonder about people who do things like that. So in a sense, I'm wary of those who act that way.

Doesn't everyone want a gay best friend? Let's face it, they're just better friends.

Wow. To use that as a basis for friends...
I just thought that people were made the same and friends can be straight, gay, transgender, whatever. I just don't have a gay best friend, because there is no way I could relate to them on that mental basis.

I would say most (but not all) gay men don't have a problem with fag hags, as long as their motivation is genuine friendship, and they are not looking for a "fashion accessory" because its the "in" thing. We can pretty much tell the difference.

Here's a hint... If I posted it, it's probably sarcasm.

Besides, you don't think it's a wonderful thing when a close friend is a completely different person than you? Maybe a little bit of different mindsets can be helpful to you as an individual. Ya know, it broadens your horizons a little.

Are fag hags a little more out going? Or is that a stereotype that I see on TV?

Eros

I don't think they're really that much more out going. I'd say true fag hags (not that "I think it'd be cool to be one" type) generally have some interest in the gay community, be it from social and political things or just like the bar scene and pride events. Because they enjoy this and are used to being around it, they have gay friends have something in common with them.

Can it be that fag hags are just more comfortable with gay men because they don't have to worry about the intimacy?

What's the lesbian equivalent? I think I used to qualify as a fag hag but now I'm up to my ears in lesbians. I'm like the crazy PFLAG mom Debbie on Queer as Folk.

Wouldn't they be guys, though? I think a straight woman hanging out with a lesbian is just a friend.

Perhaps. Or because intamacy won't lead somewhere. Many fag hags and gay men have interesting ways of flirting with each other for fun, at least from what I've seen.
