Let's take some time and share a little about our fathers...since it is father's day on Sunday. Do you share any special memories with him? Do you find yourself becoming more and more like him everyday? Please share...stories will be great too.

this is why my dad is my role model...
i received this email from him earlier today...and it just made me feel very lucky to have such an encouraging father...
in response to my email notifying him of lily chin's death, he wrote: "Kasie, I've made a token donation of $100, for our family, to the American Citizens for Justice in memory of Lily Chin. I've not seen the film "Who Killed Vincent Chin" and would like to buy one. Do you know where I can find one? Our family has been fortunate where we did not experience any discriminations and hope that we will not run into any in the future. For Asian Americans, the places to be are at the major cities along the coasts. We need to stay away from the mid west and the south where there are too many red necks. We ought to stand up for our rights but there is no need to compromise our positions. The only way to reduce racism is through continuous active communication and education. I am glad you are involved and are learning from those before you so that you can carry on and contribute not only to the Asian American movement but also America (our home).
Dad"

Wow, your dad seems like a really cool person. I still yet to see that movie too. Anyways, as for my dad.. I more or less kinda strayed away from my family ever since I moved on my own... I dunno why that is... but I'm trying to bridge that gap... And yes, I will be seeing him this Sunday along with the rest of my family...
Anyways, my father is a minister. So, his profession means that he's a writer and a public speaker. Qualities that I admire about him when it comes to dealing with the public, being a leader.... qualities that I wish I had more of.... And well, when it comes to my favorite memories of spending time with him.... I would say watching movies together... that is like my favorite past time moments with him...

My dad is #1 because he raised me right and allowed me to come back for BBQ, anytime, when I left home. :luv:
He tought me how to ride a bike, and how to dive into the pool, and how to swim, and how to drive, and how to shoot a gun (OK this one's useless).
And he took me to my first Giants game when I was in the sixth grade. And he took me to more A's games than Giants games. And he took me to Warriors games.
And, and, *sob*, *sob*, I luuuuv you mannnnnn! :luv:

Here's to fathers who overlook your greatest achievements and instead harp on the few little things that don't go your way in spite of the fact that you tried your very best and in the face of near overwhelming odds, but the cards dealt were clearly not in your favour no matter how you looked at it.
But the good outweighs the bad, I suppose. There will be a card, a family dinner, and a present after all.

Sadly, my father wasn't too involved in my childhood though he did provide for the family in a huge way. My mum did all the hard work. ;) I'm very grateful to him, of course but up until I turned 18 it was all work, work, work on his part. I was practically self sufficient school wise (e.g. like having to solve my own maths problems that were, in retrospect, pretty dang difficult!) and the international baccalaureate programme certainly didn't make things easier on me. But perseverance and hard work brought me to the top where I will fight to remain for as long as I live. So I suppose Dad provides the motivation and I provide the results because without his constant pushing my ambition would probaby be stifled.
Here's to Fathers' Day.

Rifles? Pop's got one of those under the bed with a scope. Don't know why, though. It's not like he's gonna be making any kills for dinner in suburbia anytime soon. ;)
Maybe a new bike.

Here's to dads who don't understand you, but constantly try to put their own spin on things, by placing the smack-down of morals on your head, making you feel completely guilty. It is practically the one saving-force that made me not turn to drugs or gang activity. Woot Woot.

Well, if there's a rifle with a scope in suburbia other motives come to mind other than obtaining dinner of some variety. :D
Bike as in bicycle or bike as in motorcycle? I'm happy that my father doesn't have expensive tastes in books like first editions. Maybe when I'm a practising lawyer I can indulge him. Haha!

The rifle is something he won at a raffle.
Bike as in bicycle. He's had his share of motorcycles. But all he has sitting around his garage is an old Sears 10 speed -- the kind with the loose front wheel and bearings popping out.

Pssh! Corporation Schmorporation! I'm doing it the old fashioned way by inciting World War III. I'll pick up the pieces as the head of a newly strengthened U.N. because by then the world will be so exhausted from the horrors of war that I can unite the globe under the pretense of "peace."

But seriously, he's a cool guy. Plus, he knows how to fix up his pickup and has that leadership quality about him. A fiery man when he gives speeches with a similar disposition. I'm happy that he's grown more mellow through the years.
he's a mr. fix-it-all, gagdety guy.
devoted to family. he's made a lot of sacrifices in his lifetime.
and he's finally less fiery-tempered now that he's older. :)
he picked me up from the subway station last night at 12:30am, even though it was past his bedtime.
he had to wait over 20 min for me too, cuz of train delays.
he wasn't annoyed or pissed about it.
that's pretty fuckin' cool of him!

- He made shitloads of money in the 80s as one of the most successful Acupuncturists in California.
- Spearheaded the movement to defraud hundreds of illegally licensed acupuncturists all over the country.
- Died of cancer at the age of 47. I was 13 years old.
