I'd like this forum to foster a discussion about histories and traditions in Asian countries. Many young Asian Americans are not very knowledgeable or educated about Asian histories and traditions, and this can be a place that they learn. I plan on writing short articles about different topics. But since most of what I've read about has primarily been of East Asian countries (specifically - Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Singapore), I'd love any contribution outside of that scope that any members would like to give. For that matter, make whatever contribution you'd like. Ask questions, post articles, as long as it'll further educate ourselves about the histories and traditions in Asia.

sidenote: i hope this wouldn't be too boring of a forum, hehheh, after all, history is not very interesting to most people.

Shouldn't "Asians living in Caribbean" (from Whatever) go in here too?
http://forums.yellowworld.org/show.php/act.../ST/f/37/t/8224 (http://forums.yellowworld.org/show.php/act/ST/f/37/t/8224)

edit: for that matter, what about those two "What do you think of this quote?" threads? (can only find the latter one here (http://forums.yellowworld.org/show.php/act/ST/f/37/t/9121), subtitled "Race consciousness and diaspora  )

hmm... alright maybe we can encompass more than just histories and traditions in this forum, like i originally wanted to. but i'm afraid that it might claim too many topics from Whatever.

i think i'll change the name of this forum.

History has always been one of the most interesting things in the world to me. How can you not understand where you come from?

Anyway, hopefully the forum will be successful.

immigration trends, transnationalism, identity issues that may arise from the diaspora, etc etc. but i guess that may cover a bit too much. originally i was going to stick to just histories and traditions.

what does everybody think? nothing is set in stone, so some input would be nice.

i think immigration trends would be a very interesting topic to discuss. i just wanted a clarification on the meaning - i have no real preference either way. although, i do think that discussions re: identity will necessary overlap with discussions in the rant room and other forums.

by the way, i want to emphasize again that i'd like all kinds of contribution from different members. if i'm the only person (or kasie, it seems... :P ) to come up with new topics, it may become too chinese-centric or east asian-centric. i definitely don't want that.

I like that idea.

All of those subjects seem interesting.

When I think of diaspora, I think of people scattering all over the globe, taking traditions, customs, etc. with them.

I think a lot of people don't realize how scattered asians (especially chinese) are all over the globe. There are chinese in asia in various countries, in north america, in europe, and even in the carribean, south america, and africa. Definitely a diaspora and it's something interesting IMO.

i believe same thing can be said for about almost every race
even though i dont think theres that many blacks and indians and latinos and indians and native americans ahhhhhhhhhhhh for that matter, all race, in oriental globe.

i do believe asian race is the most scattered in the world
as most blacks are scattered only in africa through europe across middle east and towards latin american
and for indians they are in indian subcontinent, europe (mainly britain), middle east and south america (guyana and suriname)
and for whites they are mostly scattered mainly across africa and latin america and oceana from europe
the LEAST scattered race i believe are NATIVE AMERICAN and LATINO and PACIFIC ISLANDER

native americans scattered only through north and south america (bolivia is home to most native american, which constitute for about 60 percent of overall population)
and latinos basically scattered across only north and south american and carribean
as for pacific islanders they are scattered only across oceana (nz and australia) and north america
