The 1.25 inches thick will be a tough one to beat. My first cell phone in 1996 wasn't that thick.

I used to have a 6185 with the extended life battery. That one was pretty big...I have to dig it out and measure. That, along with about 5 other cell phones are rotting away in my closet.

That's cheating. It has to be currently in use.

a ¤jô¤j - dai goh dai is one of those very chunky cellphones that were like the first generation of cellphones that people used. i wish i could find some pics of them, but they were about as long as your forearm and thick enough that they stand up on the table.
dai goh dai is a cantonese term. it means "big big brother" - a term used for a triad boss. when those cellphones first came out in HK, they were popular with triad bosses because they were expensive. it was a sign of status and rich people liked to carry them around.

Dai goh dai. Ok. That's my first cantonese term. Thanks for clearing that up, test me later!

The Motorola Classic. One of the first handhelds. I remember selling the battery for those suckers. The battery itself was a foot long. I kid you not.

Yeah...I keep meaning to donate them. I can donate by dropping them in a box at the cell phone store.
Little known fact, even if a phone is not subscribed to service, it can still be used to dial 911.
But seriously, my old phones are not in working condition and are would cost more to refurbish than to get a new one. I'm talking screwed up displays, broken antennas, and batteries that hold a charge for about a minute and a half.

hah, wasn't that thing up on Gizmodo (http://www.gizmodo.com/) a few months ago? I think that one was made by a guy from MIT. It would look funny as hell walking down the street talking on one of those things.
But it can't be so hard, all you need is a D-A converter to hear, an A-D converter to speak, and figure out which pins on the cellphone's hands-free headset port match which pins on the telephone handset. The latter is a public specification and the former can't be that hard to figure out, since there's really not that many pins.

I don't have one either! My mom gives me hers when she needs to keep tabs on me. It's so weird looking because she put puffy stickers on it.
Big cellphones though... aren't they like the old cordless phones?
