Chasiubao_Boy was talking about ugly people. and i'm not trying to insult people that fall under that category. it's just skin-deep the same as being beautiful and it says nothing about what kind of people they are. beauty and population relates like a bell curve. most people in this world are average looking, then there are people who most everybody will agree to be very good looking, and there are people who most everbody will agree to be very ugly. usually people will date the average people, where most of the population lies, or the good looking people. you can't deny that being ugly will hurt your chances. alot of people say they don't care about appearances, but i never see the same people date ugly people. they date average looking people. so is it special when you find someone who can truly see past physical beauty (or the lack thereof)? yeah.

i think women are easier than men in this respect. given time, patience and great persistence most guys can "get" a girl. women tend to be able to see past looks to what's inside more than guys can.

I've heard several stories about persistence paying off. I've also heard of several stories about persistent guys that just freaked the girls out and were labeled as stalkers by the girls. Doesn't a girl have to at least be "indifferent" about a guy before the guy's persistence will pay off?

great persistence... super human persistence is more like it. but i agree, a guy can sort of grow on a girl, but not the other way around.

In all fairness, the reasons guys "are" more superficial is because they can be. Most often, it's up to the guy to approach the girl and the girl just lies in wait. Thus, it's up to the guy to pick and choose. Women, as the more passive ones in the whole game of pursuit, generally sit back and accept whatever comes their way. I'll bet if more women took the initiative, they'd have as many (if not more) opportunities to "grow" on men through persistence.

Oh, I actually agree with you here. As men are the ones who're required to put the proposal on the table by asking the women out, women in reality have the ultimate say in who they will or will not date. However, since women generally leave it upon men to do the asking, they're kind of limited to whichever guys actually bother to ask them out.

My point was that since the guys generally have to make the first move, they're necessarily going to choose someone that they feel is more attractive than less attractive. If women were required to make the first move, I imagine you'd see the same thing. It's not that guys are inherently more superficial than girls, it's that guys' process of selection is more superficial (because, unlike the girls, the guys haven't had an opportunity to talk to the girls before they make their first selections).

Well, that's my theory at least.

actually i tend to think that it's because biologically speaking, men are much more visually oriented and visually driven than women.

Girls aren't like us, period. They can actually OVERLOOK a lack of looks if a guys personality is sexy to them. It's as simple as that. I know parapalegics on wheelchairs who score more action than most pimped out players who hang in clubs thinkinin their Gods gift to women (when in actuality they go home, alone, lol). When I first met my current boyf, he was shy and introverted. He still says he can't believe he got me (not being up myself bear with me) but I've always thought of it as the other way around. He's come out of his shell and I can't believe how much he's changed (heaps more confident). I may add that we both had bad skin when we met (still do sometimes) but we were both able to see past that. Now he gets checked out more than I do. I do agree that guys are more visually oriented (ie: porn dvd as opposed to written erotica) and that women are able to see past inadequacies in men more than guys do. This has been largely incoherent so apologies.

In my experience, it makes little difference how a woman will respond to you based upon how good-looking or hot (or ugly) she is (although your looks do matter to an extent). Beautiful girls are not any more difficult to initiate or engage conversation with than average or fugly ones. Not to mention that most people, unless they are Grade A assholes or bitches (in which they will not be worth your time), will not turn down conversation if you come across as halfway decent and presentable. Actually I think a lot of hot women have lower self-esteem and are more self-conscious because they are used to men falling at their feet and get this distorted perception that their looks are their best and only asset. Arguably hot women are easier to pick up in this case, no matter how ugly you are. Couple this with a limit-free credit card and the right words or personality, and this ugly guy/hot woman concept becomes suddenly very believable.

I think the consensus among my friends is it's more like a minimum size thing. That is, below a certain number of inches is unacceptable or seen as a drawback, but above the number of inches doesn't really matter as much. See it as a minimum standard, a pass/fail thing rather than a bigger is better thing. Then again all my friends are virgins.

That's true but on an individual basis. We Asian males have to prove that we are worthy to females before they give us a shot at the title and if they are willing to make exceptions. Things like sellouts saying, " I don't date asian guys but I'll go out with you" among other types of poor press which affects our success with females. It's a constant battle.

That's only true on an individual basis, too. We Asian females have to cope with Asian males who assume they have something to prove to us.

...For the most part, most Asian girls will date whoever they like based on a combination of looks and personality, not based on who's skin is the right color.

Where did the whole "asian male" shit come from? Jeebus. Any guy can get a girl, it's how you approach them. The chicks who are bitchy enough to say "I don't date your race" or what-not, just make sure you make her repeat it loudly enough to let others hear, so they can judge her response.
