First the A's and Mariners cancelled their trip to Tokyo to start out the MLB season.

NOW THIS!

I had tickets to see the Japan vs Korea part of the tournament.
I am sick of this bullshit. How are the players going to transmit SARS to the fans? And how are any SARS infected fans going to get into Japan if they don't meet the mandatory quarentine.

SHIT SHIT SHIT! Fucking paranoid assholes!

(a really hot girl was going to go with me to this game too...)

I wonder how long they are planning to postpone it.

Inaugural East Asian Football Championships Postponed Due to SARS

The Inaugural East Asian Football (soccer) championships have been postponed indefinitely because of concerns over Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

The president of the East Asian Football Federation, Shunichiro Okano, said his federation had no choice but to postpone the event. Okano said concern over fan health and safety caused his organization to postpone the tournament.

The championships were scheduled for May 28 to June 3 in Yokohama, with China, South Korea, Hong Kong and Japan taking part. Championship organizers were determined to hold the tournament because there have been no cases of SARS in Japan.

However, Yokohama city officers said it was too risky to host the event with the deadly virus spreading in several Asian countries.

well you have to think about the costs and logistics involved in putting in quarantine any and all travellers from mainland china, hong kong, taiwan, and singapore. are they willing to shoulder the costs and are their health workers experienced enough in handling the number of fans that might be arriving from those countries? and don't forget that infection rates amongst health workers have been around 20%. if you think about it, having a large number of travellers arriving like that, they can't just quarantine the travellers, they have to also quarantine the japanese health workers that would be working with the travellers.

Yea, that makes sense..

But seeing as how the only way to get tix is to buy them in Japan, and that tix went on sale 1 month before the event, and sold out 1 week later, most likely no one from China and HK are gonna come. It's too much hassle to just watch a soccer game. Do you think anyone can realistically take 1 month off of work for that?
